Do I need to play investigations 1 to appreciate 2?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2022 09:38 PM PST

I've heard 1 is the worst game in the series and 2 is the best, do I gotta trudge through one to enjoy 2?

After months of sitting on it, I’m totally okay with the ending of The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2022 05:36 PM PST

I'll admit that when I first finished The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve in August 2021, I was conflicted about Sholmes using holograms to help take down Stronghart. In the moment, they felt like a bit of a stretch even by Sholmes standards, and it made the ending feel like a deus ex machina. As a result, I decided to sit on my thoughts for some time and revisit it much later, so after about four and a half months, I'm totally fine with it now, and here's why.

The ending is less "I wrote myself into a corner and need a magical deus ex machina to win" and more "this is just a fancier, glorified telephone." Had Sholmes just set up a telephone for Queen Victoria to hear the court proceedings (which would be totally believable), it would accomplish the exact same thing. Sholmes himself even cites the telephone as an inspiration when talking about inventing the holograms.

The hologram itself wasn't the "solution" to taking down Stronghart. You already proved his guilt in court. All Sholmes needed was for the Queen to listen in to the proceedings, so the hologram is just a fancier way of accomplishing a relatively simple function. From a meta perspective, it's also a way for us, the player, to view Sholmes & Iris from the courtroom. That's a lot different from your usual deus ex machina where the plot is resolved by some magical convenience.

Now, if you say the hologram's inclusion still felt off in terms of the flow/presentation of the story, that's a completely fair critique and is 100% subjective. I'm just here to point out that it's not the logic-defying deus ex machina that some are making it out to be. This isn't like Case 3 of JfA where that particular leap in logic is necessary for the plot to function. In GAA2, the hologram is just visual spectacle.

Regardless, The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve is a brilliant game and one of my favorite games of all time. Massive props to Shu Takumi as you can tell how much his writing has improved from 2001 to 2017.

Like the title says. Is there any simple way to make a Maya Fey cosplay? Like, what would you need to buy?

I'm on the investigation part of episode 5 of Resolve... and I have a question about Herlock.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2022 01:43 PM PST

All those times where he was wrong in the deduction, was that all a farce? Was Herlock just messing around to see if Runo could find out what he already did?

That's the impression I'm having with this investigation.

Hello everyone! I was looking for the sound effect used in the DS Ace Attorney: Unlock Success screen. The one after PW uses his psyche lock ability and after that it says unlock success. Does anyone know where to find/download it?
