Ace Attorney fanbase is the best I've seen in Reddit

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 06:23 PM PDT

Seriously, this is the only sub-Reddit I've seen where everyone respects different opinions, even if they disagree, and don't just downvote it to hell. I'm tired of posting perfectly reasoned walls of text only for getting downvotes, trolls who insult, and people who makes their point just reading the title. I've never seen anythinf like that in this sub-Reddit. What do you think the reason is?

I've just finished the Ace Attorney Trilogy..

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 09:45 AM PDT

... And wow. I'm speechless. This was mine and my fiancé's go-to game for the past few months and it has to be one of the best games I've ever played! I've never been so engrossed in the plot of a game before that I can remember, even a day later I'm still thinking about Godot and what he did for the Feys. Neither of us saw the (many) twists coming and we were HOOKED. Not to mention how amazing the writing is that wove all those narratives together.

I'm left a bit sad and empty that it's over, because it was such an amazing story full of love, sacrifice, and heartbreak.

Sorry for the rant but I had to write down my feelings somewhere!

US NPD July 2021: TGAA Fails To Break July 2021's Top 20 Sellers - What Does This Mean For The Series?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:38 PM PDT

Before anyone points out the game's release date, NEO: The World Ends With You released on the exact same day and is #16 on that same list. And NTWEWY itself has relatively underperformed.

In Japan, both NEO: The World Ends With You and TGAA underperformed considerably in its first week as well, with TGAA selling about 18k. The title soon dropped considerably in its 2nd week, selling an additional 3k, landing it in the 22nd spot.

Do we have any sales data on TGAA's performance in any other regions?

People were trying to justify TGAA's low sales in Japan due to it being a port, so all hopes were placed on NA and EU sales. But, TGAA (essentially, a NEW game) sadly could not break #20 in the US.

EDIT: The Capcom leak showed they projected 310k worldwide. They projected 100k in Japan and 210k overseas, lifetime sale projections. I can't post leak screenshots here but do know that they are legit, and you can DM me if you want to see the proof for yourself. (Shoutout to u/IkoShark for the heads up!)

AA Mythbusters Extra: Did AA2 forget 1-5?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 10:30 PM PDT

Okay, I'm doing a currently larger piece, but this here is a quickie to clear up another misconception the fans have.

I see a lot of people bring up that AA2 "forgot" that 1-5 happened, citing it as a continuity error born of 1-5 being made after the Trilogy was completed, and even using it as a weapon of sorts in debates on the quality of the case overall. The wiki even dedicates a whole bit of 2-3 page to talk about how the case forgot it due to it being written after, and how the 2014 Trilogy "fixed" the problem.

    This isn't true, however:

He never set foot into court again...

    法廷に立つことがほとんどなくなって‥‥

He only rarely appeared in court...

As you can see, the Japanese line, uh...does not say what the ENG says. Rather than say he suddenly stopped prosecuting, it says Edgeworth just starting showing up in court less and less until he just up and vanished, which means that, yes, Edgeworth did attend other trials. He'd have to, because even prior to 1-5's creation, the end of 1-4 literally shows Edgeworth and Phoenix in-court, indicating that, yes, he's still prosecuting after being a defendant.

    So yeah, no retcon.

Conclusion: No continuity error in the Japanese, Janet Hsu just screwed up.

Taking lifting to a new level (DGS2)

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 12:48 PM PDT

How different do you think the AA franchise would be if the first game was designed for a home console like the N64 or Gamecube rather than the GBA/DS?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 07:31 PM PDT

Proposal: Like how AAI/2 gets shortened to I- and I2-, TGAA/2 can be shorted to G- and G2-

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 04:05 PM PDT

This makes case numbers a little more easy to type and read quickly, uses the more notable of the words added to the title (ergo between "The" and "Great"), and is also the only letter which TGAA has in common with DGS, for those of us still more used to abbreviating the game's name as such.

What do the fine folks here think?

Taketsuchi Auchi became the worst prosecutor in my book

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 09:44 PM PDT

Usually in the many Ace Attorney games I've played always get annoyed as heck in every first episode because of one man, Payne, and at this point, even his ancestors became the worst of them all. Auchi is just downright a terrible person, the many Payne I've dealt with in the past games were tolerable to say the least, but adding racism, bigotry and discrimination to this guy's terrible personality just became more infuriating to contend with.

In your opinion, which AA character's age is most at odds with their appearance/personality?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 09:43 PM PDT

Maybe it's just me, but I've always been terrible at guessing AA character's ages based on how they look, although for certain characters I would argue their stated age in the court record just has to be bullshit. I think I feel this the most with Gregory Edgeworth, who I did not expect to be only 34.

Honorable mentions go to Manfred von Karma at 49 (sure, you can explain this as artists being lazy, although I prefer to believe that Manfred has always looked this old, even as a child) and Susato Mikotoba, who I first thought was around Ryunosuke and Kazuma's age but is somehow only 16.

This might be reaching, but is the sign that says "William Robbins," in chapter 4 of Ace Attorney Chronicles a nod to Robin Williams? I know he loved Zelda, but I was just curious.
