(DETECTIVE GUMSHOE) Very old drawing of this loyal pal! Too little salary is making him thin... (or rather, it's because I had a hard time depicting guys :^))

Favourite case, I will fight you on this.

Post your first-time reactions, opinions, complaints, and general thoughts here. What are your reasons for considering The Magical Turnabout the best case in the last fifteen years, as everyone who's correct does?

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (first game) - Strengths and Weaknesses

    Posted: 10 Sep 2019 01:30 PM PDT

In a new series of posts I'm doing, I will list what I believe to be a major strength, minor strength, minor weakness and major weakness of each case in each Ace Attorney game (excluding VS and DGS 2 since I haven't played them).

(note - I obviously believe most cases don't have exactly two strengths and two weaknesses, this is just a fun, brief way of reviewing each case)

    Case 1-1 (The First Turnabout):

•Major Strength - really good as a tutorial.

•Minor Strength - a good introduction of several characters.

•Minor Weakness - once the trial starts, it takes quite a while to get to Sawhit's section.

•Major Weakness - none of the contradictions require pressing statements. The 'pressing tutorial' is at the start of 1-2's first trial, I feel it would've been better here.

    Case 1-2 (Turnabout Sisters):

•Major Strength - a really good introduction of Maya and Edgeworth.

•Minor Strength - a good introduction of investigations.

•Minor Weakness - not a great introduction of Gumshoe in my opinion.

•Major Weakness - Redd White is built up throughout the second investigation to be really powerful, then is far too easy to take down in the trial.

    Case 1-3 (Turnabout Samurai):

•Major Strength - Edgeworth's redemption arc is really good - it's built up throughout (doesn't prep the witnesses, considers the defence's arguments etc.), then results in amazing moments at the end.

•Minor Strength - most of the characters. Oldbag has her best appearance here, and Cody and Vasquez are good in their own rights.

•Minor Weakness - Cody's section in the second trial is a bit too long.

•Major Weakness - would've been better as a two-day case, the third investigation was so short because most of the important stuff had been solved already.

    Case 1-4 (Turnabout Goodbyes):

•Major Strength - really good character moments (for Maya and Edgeworth especially), as well as good moments overall.

•Minor Strength - for the first case that heavily involves a case from "x years ago", it does a really good job.

•Minor Weakness - Manfred doesn't train Polly to not say "1228" as the safe number.

•Major Weakness - Manfred goes down too easily after being accused.

Case 1-5 (Rise from the Ashes):

•Major Strength - the actual mystery is very solid, and it's shown throughout how it's affected each individual character very well.

•Minor Strength - Damon Gant is awesome as an overall character and villain.

•Minor Weakness - it's weird for me that Lana is the defendant throughout when Meekins and Ema are the main 'suspects' in the second and third trial respectively. I think it would've been better if Trial 1 had Lana as a defendant (inconclusive), Trial 2 had Meekins as a defendant (not guilty) and Trial 3 had Ema as a defendant for SL-9 (Ema, then Lana, found not guilty).

•Major Weakness - I think Damon Gant was made to be a little too 'untouchable' - I understand that he's Chief of Police but a rule that states that the Chief of Police doesn't have to testify, the fact that he gets away with direct threats in court AND the fact that it appears he can still be Chief of Police after he admits to forging evidence without major consequences feels a little too 'over-the-top' for me.

Please remember, these are my opinions :)

Any cut content or ideas you’d like to see revived?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2019 03:27 PM PDT

For example, I'd honestly want them to retry the original idea for Spirit of Justice where Phoenix somehow ends up in an underground criminal court with its own laws and such. Would be an interesting idea

    Who had the saddest backstory?

To me it is edgeworth because he had to see his own father get murdered

    Need help

    Posted: 10 Sep 2019 12:04 PM PDT

I am new to the AA series (well not really I guess I finished the first game and currently in the second one) so I would ask if I would just watch the anime season 1 and 2 and then play Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies after? I'm kinda lazy when it comes to the trilogy itself 🙁
