So why do prosecutors hide evidence and prosecute people they probably know to be innocent?

    Posted: 09 May 2022 12:35 PM PDT

I'm currently playing through the series for the first time (currently on case 2-3) and am noticing how in so many of the cases the prosecution hides evidence, tells the witnesses to leave details out etc. Wouldn't it be easier to just do Phoenix's job for him in advance and actually catch the real culprit? Why prosecute someone who you know might not be so obviously guilty?

    Hypothetical - Ace Attorney: Alterations/AU (Main/Side Games)

    Posted: 10 May 2022 03:44 AM PDT

I've been in this self-inflicted rabbit hole of sorts after jumping back into the Ace Attorney series where my thoughts are all over the place, and while I still have yet to catch up on the series completely (I want to play everything but have only touched the Trilogy and Chronicles, so apologies to fans of other pieces in the series who will have to come up with their own examples for this topic), I'm familiar with the ruts that media can fall into where it feels like a character can't be developed further or a story might start feeling stale.

Being someone who loves canon divergences (Chronicles doesn't qualify but has aspects of it by carrying over some character traits/tropes from the main series), I've always wondered about the idea of the series - deciding that it's dried out of ways to take the current characters/story, at least for a moment - not rebooting so much as delving into alternate takes for at least one game.

example from the Trilogy: The DL-6 Incident never happened (with changes being made such as Edgeworth staying friends with Phoenix and possibly becoming a playable defense lawyer rather than a prosecutor, and could also delve into how von Karma might take revenge if he ever does so)

example from Chronicles: The Professor Killings didn't happen/played out differently (I'm in the middle of case 4 during the second game so I can't give specifics on how things could/would be different, I just think that Kazuma not having his mission could lead to him being very alternatively motivated and turning out different, similar to Barok van Zieks).

I'm unsure as to how the games would be marketed or if they'd be successful at all (Edgeworth/Kazuma and Barok van Zieks would likely be very different people, which I could see either being interesting or a complete turnoff), but I've been curious on other people's opinions.

Now, obviously, a "rule of fun" would have to apply where more events would have to play out differently too for the sake of having completely different cases (like... if a case were to be repeated, how many events would have to be changed in order to make it interesting and emotionally compelling enough to play "again" after one has already played the original?) but the point is that we're treading the same time period and characters but with events changed enough to where we have new cases and/or different culprits and victims.

I guess one could also see this as an excuse to reuse assets or find a timeline in which the infamous Turnabout Big Top doesn't exist but regardless--

This was a very rambly and long-windy way of asking that, if the game creators decided that they'd squeezed dry everything from PW/TGAAC/[insert other piece of the series that I'm not aware enough about to comment on] but still wanted to make new games by delving into alternate universes, would it be something you'd be into or nah?

Bonus question: If yes, what big event/multiple little events would you change in order to make things feel fresh and interesting? If no, would you prefer the series end entirely at that point if the creators felt so content-dry for the main story, or take a different route (and what kind of route would that be)?

Me personally, I'm both a biased party and also not because I like the idea of an official source delving into an alternate take but I also can't feel like the series is stale because I haven't even played that far into the series to say that it is or not. I've only gotten vague spoilers/clips from other titles, though the idea of perhaps an evil/good version of a character is very intriguing to me (like... keeping players guessing as to if a character from the original turned from a bad guy to an innocent bystander, from a kindhearted witness turned into the murderer, or stayed the same but is just different enough personality-wise to make you unsure). Also, despite having not played all the games, I'd jump on alternate takes instantly even if I hadn't played the particular game where the original event took place. Might even be more willing to jump on it if I haven't played the original event, just to get a different perspective than someone who has played the original event.

Things you would love to see in a future Great Ace Attorney game ?

    Posted: 09 May 2022 12:54 PM PDT

What are things you would love to see if they were to make a new Great Ace Attorney game ? your ideas don't have to be coherent or intended to be in the same game, just say anything you think would be cool to see.

Here's my list (Warning: Possible spoilers for the duology, read at your own risk)

    1. Great Ace Attorney Investigations: Barok Van Zeiks. Investigations is probably my favored gameplay system in the game, so combining it with GAA graphics, mechanics, settings and characters would be a dream come true for me. it doesn't have to be a Van Zeiks game, there are plenty of other characters it could star: Herlock Sholmes, Future Iris Wilson, Kazuma Asogi, Past Tobias Gregson, Yujin Mikotoba, Genshin Asogi but Van Zeiks is definitely the character I would love to know more about and hear his inner thoughts, just look what Investigations did for Edgeworth who was already a fan favorite.
    2. Travelling to other countries like France, Italy, Germany or US to name a few. we have probably uncovered everything London has to offer, so it would be interesting to get a new game where Naruhodo and co. travel to another country.
    3. More ancestor characters. I'd love to see some Fey lore or maybe something like Blackquill (since Simon is a samurai so a Blackquill character would fit in this setting), even if they don't show up, I'd love to at least hear some mentions of it like the Von Karmas being the descendants of a Genshin Asogi student
    4. More mention of fictional countries established in past Ace Attorney games like Khura'in, Cohdopia or Zheng Fa, possibly travelling to them.
    5. A new prosecutor character. Van Zeiks is great but two full games is plenty for him, I think it's about time Naruhodo faces a new prosecutor in court he hasn't met before.
    6. More mechanics. I know the game already had plenty new mechanics which ar pretty cool, but I'd love to see something similar to the magatama/bracelet/mood matrix maybe, especially if they didn't bring back Sholmes for the next game (which I certainly hope they would)

    let me know your list
