Is it me, or is the dialogue of AA Chronicles more verbose than the trilogy?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 05:13 AM PST

For context: I played the trilogy, then immediately jumped over to Chronicles, am currently still in the middle of playing the game so no spoilers please.

I'm not sure if it's just in my head, but reading the dialogue in Chronicles felt more tiring than in the trilogy. The sentences are wordier, sometimes more than necessary, and the grasp of vocabulary is more demanding. I feel less like reading organic dialogue and more like reading an essay -- something I never felt when playing the trilogy. To me at least, it's not very ideal when I have to read a lot of text for hours on end.

This is what I’ve realized about Nick

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 08:47 AM PST

Throughout the main trilogy, Nick is dealing with all of Mia's family issues. Between saving her sister, to getting her aunt arrested, to befriending her little cousin and then duking it out in court with her ex.

Then in AJ, he deals with Trucy's family issues to an even greater extent after Shadi dumps his daughter on the man and disappears for many years.

Nick may as well become a family lawyer too.

What if there was a protagonist with a Probabilities gimmick?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 01:08 AM PST

Had this random theoretical idea. There have been several protagonists/assistants representing different branches of science: Ema for forensic analysis, Athena for armchair psychology, Edgeworth for Basic Logic (and Kay for virtual reality, I guess)...

I remembered about the use of probabilities in forensics and law - forensic statistics and the like... and a vague image of a lawyer with a passion for mathematics took shape in my brain.

What about a mechanic where you calculate, add, multiply and compare different probabilities to determine which lead to pursue? Could it fit with the games' general... whole thing? It could even segue into a traditional "turn your thinking around" moment, where a probability of something having happened is 1, so you need to think deterministically (what possible event lead to an established result).

Perhaps it could serve as a visualization of the previously obvious scenarios shrinking in size until the previously unlikely one is now the most probable. Which might feel like Captain Obvious, but hey, we've seen the merit of Basic Logic.

Obviously, it's not that fun to use maths in a murder mystery game where everything is unlikely and wacky ("whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"). But maybe, just maybe it can work, perhaps even without sacrificing the entire tone?

    Any ideas?

    About tgaac…

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 02:01 AM PST

So Ryu is the great ancestor/is meant to parallel Phoenix in some way, right? So what about the other characters? The only immediately obvious one i can think of is Edgeworth and Van Zieks because of the whole thing where you end up defending him

The Paynes of Being a Lawyer

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 06:28 AM PST

Could I get some Ace Attorney premisses to practice set theory (like Venn diagrams but written mathematically)?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 08:14 AM PST

To make you get the basic picture of what I'm out after here's a simple example of a Venn diagram. I would like to do this but Ace Attorney is related. You choose the basic sections, like woman, cartoon, and human, in the example (it can be more than three). If you want you can also choose some of the values to be put into the premises, like John Venn and Peppa Pig in the example.

The premises could be all the games from the original trilogy and the value of the different characters, except maybe a bit smaller, since I'm not actually going to write it in a Venn diagram. It can however be more than one thing in each section.

I'm pretty good at doing this with numbers and letters, but I find concepts much harder, so I wanted some fun practice! Hope my explanation was understandable!

I'm done with all games except the Layton crossover, so nothing from that one!

Why High Inquisitor Darklaw doesn't deserve your sympathy

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 07:29 AM PST

If you've finished the game, you no doubt know that the executions by fire are faked, and that Darklaw is actually Eve Belduke, orchestrating the entire scheme from the shadows. One might be compelled to believe that because of her trauma, or more specifically, because everyone ignored her trauma, she felt a need for revenge against Espella, whose trauma was listened to instead. Therefore an argument can be made that she deserves sympathy, as she's been through so much and was mistreated for so long for the sake of a girl who doesn't even know it.

However, remember that the final trial, in which Darklaw tried to have Espella blamed for the death of the Storyteller and named as the Great Witch Bezella, they built an entirely new courtroom. The others, Kira, Jean Greyerl, and even that first "witch" we see in a cutscene, were all spared death and took on the job of shades. However, if they built a new courtroom, the mechanism to fake it would not exist.

Darklaw, despite knowing the Storyteller was the true source of her pain, still tried to kill Espella. She might blame her, but logically speaking it's quite clear that the Storyteller is to blame. Why still try to bbq her??? Sounds like she's not worth compassion after all. She's literally attempting to murder someone, probably the only person who gets what she went through. The only person who can help. Isn't that so selfish? Level 5 and Capcom really tried their hardest to give us an emotional ending, but they didn't give us much reason to really feel bad for whatever fate Darklaw suffers.

Cornering That One Culprit... (Spoilers for Ace Attorney Investigations' final case)

    Posted: 27 Jan 2022 09:32 AM PST

I swear, cornering Quercus Alba (AAI1-5) reminds me of this scene in Futurama. You have to prove every little connection in the case, otherwise Alba won't be arrested.

If it weren't for this aspect, I honestly think Turnabout Ablaze would be one of my favourite cases in the series. I get why they made the ending take so long, but... even still, it's pretty tedious.

How many more mainline games do you think could be released before a new protagonist needs to be introduced like in AA4?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 07:49 PM PST

Of course, infinite games could be made using the attorneys we have now, but this is more about how long the series could remain fresh for if they stuck to these previously established characters. An AA4 with Phoenix as the protagonist could've been good, as u/ashu54 has shown is his hypothetical version of AA4, but it would be hard to consistently make a ton of good, fresh games with just one attorney leading the story, as evident with DD making him the protagonist again and some people saying that he was one of the negatives of the game's story.

    Maya in 3-5

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 04:00 PM PST

For all those who finished T&T, you will know that Maya is the last witness, and she wants to avoid the discovery that Godot or Armando was the one who killed her mother (who was possessed by Dahlia), because he saved her. In spite of that, as Armando himself would say, he is also to blame, because he could have avoided the whole ordeal if he talked to Phoenix, which didn't happen. Even so, she doesn't hold any grudge against him. Do you feel that this is justified, or is Maya being an idiot?

Which versions of the newer Ace attorney games should you play?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2022 10:27 PM PST

So I have yet to play through the games. I watch the game grumps play the first and have seen the anime. I'm going to start with the trilogy remaster first obviously but I'm wondering about Apollo Justice, DD, and SoJ.

From my knowledge there exists 2 versions the 3DS versions and the Mobile versions(both of which I do own) which versions are the best to play with?

I have seen the trilogy on mobile and my god it looks…sooo bad just from the menu. And have heard about it's performance issues.

The above games in question were taken down recently and updated and I'm not sure what state they are in now. I could play them but firstly I need to play the first 3 and once I start I wouldn't want to backtrack on a different version.

For those who wanted to see a Kristoph objection animation - well... here's a little sketch I did (it's less than an inch wide. i'm not joking). Just the arm though. Two versions with different timing: first is a two-stage gesture, second is one fluid movement
