(2-4) Among these characters, who pulled off their role better?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2021 05:29 AM PST

The title. Just to expand a little more on what I meant. Farewell, my Turnabout is clearly a case about a moral dilemma, to see how much Phoenix can still place his faith on his clients. This case is quite acclaimed by the fanbase and this fanbase is warranted, and the three pillars of this episode, the pivotal pieces that allowed 2-4 to be memorable are three characters:

Matt Engarde: your client, who is actually guilty. A narcissistic prick that got Corrida killed just to protect his stupid "refreshing as the spring breeze" public. He is a scumbag but you still need to save him...or maybe not. Still, Matt's main trait is about betraying Phoenix and cornering the latter to a all, forcing Trite to think about Mia's teachings and what being a defense attorney truly means to him.

Shelly DeKiller: the one that actually poses the moral dilemma. Shelly is the actual brain behind the dilemma, since the kidnapping Maya and holding her at gunpoint were ideas concocted by the man himself. That's why he is an unstoppable force, because if he doesn't feel untouchable by Phoenix, the moral dilemma has a much easier outcome to be achieved. He only did so on account of his mindset to "protect his client at all costs", meaning that getting Phoenix to protect Matt is DeKiller's aftercare, as described by the man himself. This pact of trust is also essential for the conclusion of the miracle.

Adrian Andrews: one of the best characters in Ace Attorney, easily. She has to pull off a very difficult role, to make the player care about her as much as the audience cares about Maya, otherwise the moral dilemma loses a lot of its impact. Despite having a clear lust for revenge, it's clear that she only framed Engarde since he pushed her beloved mentor to suicide in his childish dick-swinging game with Juan Corrida. She is easily sympathetic, having some compelling levels of depth that make me appreciate her character a lot.

With this info in mind, who is the best character in terms of how well they pull off their roles? My ranking is:

Adrian Andrews > Shelly DeKiller > Matt Engarde

Because if he does, they'll most likely redub his objection, and we will lose the most glorious sound bit in the entire series for a much less interesting one.

    Phoenix Wright's Career

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 08:20 PM PST

Its amusing to think that Phoenix ended the perfect record of three prodigious prosecutors, one of which had a record of 40 years. It makes me wonder how cool Phoenix looks like while defending his client and what people must have thought of him. We, as players, dont really see that because we hear his thoughts and how comedic they are.

I wish I had discovered this game earlier

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 12:45 PM PST

I have seen memes about the game before like the "you're not a clown, you're the entire circus" phrase by Miles (which seems not to be in the game). I randomly decided to give it a try recently and I'm addicted. Needless to say I'm planning to play the whole series. Didn't expect it to have an actual storyline and to be that entertaining. Actually playing the second game.

The OSTs are on point too.

Just finished the Original Trilogy. What's your favorite case?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 10:29 PM PST

Sent Dahlia Hawthorne back to hell where she belongs, healed friendships, saved both branch & main Fey family for good, put the whole gang back together, helped the good Detective with his empty heart (but not his empty wallet, unfortunately), and best of all: found out that Phoenix love was not one-sided, but reciprocated by wonderful Iris... (which moved me bc I was played in the past by a bad partner).

I'm in awe with this series. What are some of your favorite cases of the 1st 3 gems?

What would it look like if your or any job was like an ace attorney case?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 09:42 PM PST

It's been stuck in my head about what life would be if the world ran on Ace Attorney rules. I'd love to read some of your cases in your given field or really any job that would make for a good case. Here's mine based very loosely on when I was just a nursing student at a hospital.

Me: This elderly woman is here for checks report for confusion.

MD: Hold it! edgeworth head shake that report is out of date. She punched a nursing aid and threatened to beat the next nurse that comes in.

Me: Phoenix sigh and to self, why wasn't I told sooner? Doc, this woman may have a uti.

Family in the room: murmuring all at once uti? She's nuts! This nurse doesn't know what she's talking about.

MD: Hold it! You're going to have to get a urine sample to prove it. I need it asap.

Me: Phoenix shocked face you want me to do it alone?

two other nurses appear out of nowhere

Nurses: we're here to help! We can do this if we work together!

/next day after antibiotics are started/

music that plays in the lobby after the case is won

Old lady: thank you so much for your help. I'm glad you only have small scratches and I didn't hurt you more.

Me: it was nothing. I believed it wasn't the real you and I'm glad I was right.

Granddaughter: runs in out of nowhere with tears in eyes thank you for helping my grandma

    Gregson and children

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 05:55 PM PST

    Two questions:

Firstly, was Iris's tea genuinely that good that he'd fondly shake his head after drinking it and smile on or was it all an act to stay in Iris's good books. I like to think the tea is actually eye watering but he drinks it anyway to not discourage her.

Secondly....Was Gregson going to adopt Gina as his own if... yknow...all of THAT didn't happen?

I just noticed he acts really nice to children in particular so I'm wondering if maybe he had a soft spot or something.

My thoughts on "Turnabout Goodbyes" after having finished DGS2 (PW:AA case 4)

    Posted: 08 Dec 2021 04:46 PM PST

    Brief Introduction

This case holds a very special place in my heart, as this is the case that REALLY got me invested in the series. This case is the reason I kept playing and started to get into most of the main characters. This case has a lot of the most important moments in the series and serves as the backbone for the main characters. But without further ado, I have to start gushing about this case.

    Case Overview

This case already starts out with a shock to the core, Edgeworth is found with a gun in hand and we get to see how this case might go. We have to save Edgeworth from being prosecuted in what seems to be an impossible case. We go visit Edgeworth in the detention center, and sadly we can't get anything out of him. He shoves you aside with no remorse, we also get to see a different side of Edgeworth in this case that we wouldn't have seen before if this scenario wouldn't happen. We also get to see Gumshoe yelling at you incoherently to save Edgeworth, and even through all the stuff Edgeworth had put him through, it's endearing to see Gumshoe so worked up over him.

We also get introduced to Lotta Hart in this case, and I'm glad to say that I don't completely hate her because of this being her first appearance in the series. She's still annoying but she's fun for the most part and I don't dislike her appearance here (GOD DAMN IT GRAND TURNABOUT). We also get to learn about the Victim, who's also a lawyer (fittingly enough) and get to learn about DL-6 and how Larry, Edgeworth, and Phoenix were in the same class.

We learn about the DL-6 incident and more about Maya's mother through talking to Edgeworth, where his dad who's also a chad Gregory Edgeworth (Thanks Inherited Turnabout ILY) dies in an incident in an elevator. The DL-6 incident would close in 3 days if not solved due to the statute of limitations placed. Soon afterwards, we get to go to court and bring Lotta Hart for her photos of the incident.

We also get to know one of the most outright HORRIBLE human beings in this series, Manfred von Karma. Manfred is an actual psychopath only focusing on delivering guilty verdicts because of his over inflated pride being thicker than his skull. He makes everything seem like an impossible mountain to climb, and even the most simple of testimonies are absurdly hard. Every cross examination against him is grueling and difficult, every minor inconsistency you can bring out is extremely hard to do. He's easily the hardest opponent to beat in the series as a prosecutor, mostly due to the FORGED EVIDENCE and his other horrible behavior. You have to scrutinize everything, like Edgeworth's right handed prints and the details of the photo.

After somehow managing to get an extra day, we have to do a lot in this second investigation. Phoenix has to find a way to outsmart a person who deliberately rigged a trial to his needs. We learn more about the DL-6 incident and how the old shopkeeper man, Yanni Yogi, was connected through a GOD DAMN PARROT. We learn about the DL-6 incident's circumstances, being in an elevator with only 3 people inside.

After gathering more clues, Phoenix starts his trial with a few statements, but is suddenly lured into a trap with Von Karma. It seems impossible to triumph over VON KARMA'S UNGODLY POWERS, but Larry Butz saves you in the nick of time by having him be a character that Von Karma had no jurisdiction over in his Perfect Case. Using Larry's unironically good testimony, you figure out CHRISTMAS WASN'T ACTUALLY CHRISTMAS and how Hart's Camera directly conflict with it. Using these small openings, Phoenix starts to uncover the actual truth. There were 3 shots fired on that day. One when the Victim met the culprit, and two to create a few witnesses in Edgeworth and Lotta. The Boat shopkeeper is unveiled to be the real culprit, and things start to heat up.

We get to learn more about Miles's past with Butz and Wright, and also learn of the CLASS TRIAL involved with them, creating a friendship with them. We also learn about Edgeworth's past, and how the DL-6 incident destroyed his aspiration to be a defense lawyer. Wright, wanting to save a person who saved him, decides to push ahead, and corner Yanni Yogi. We get more information from the parrot I guess, and learn how all of these main characters are tied together.

The day comes where we CROSS EXAMINE A PARROT WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL, we learn a lot about Yanni Yogi's motive and it blows over rather quickly. I guess people should cross examine their pets a lot more in case they learn something new. We get a not guilty verdict for Edgeworth, happy times right? NO, Edgeworth Objects and we start the DL-6 Trial against the mastermind who ruined everyone's lives.

We get to look into the incident by listening to what Edgeworth said, the small details of the bullet hole in the window, the scream echoing through the hall. It creates a really surreal sense and it's probably my favorite part of the case due to it. Finally getting to understand what happened, Phoenix slips and almost loses the case. But through hearing Mia's voice, he starts to grasp what happened through his first real bluff in the series. The person who got shot by the first bullet, was actually VON KARMA. By using Gumshoe's Metal Detector weapon, we point out that Von Karma had never taken the bullet out of his shoulder, and with that, we take down (debatably) the most harmful, and straight up horrible character in Ace attorney

    Highlights

    • Edgeworth, Maya, Larry, Phoenix, Gumshoe are amazing in this case
    • DL-6 incident in general
    • The actual murder plan and how simple yet complex it was
    • Yanni Yogi as a tragic murderer
    • The fact that I hear RT's Von Karma Voice when he speaks in this trial now

    Dislikes/Hates

    • I don't have any LOL

    Final Opinions

I Love this case with a capital L. Learning so much about Edgeworth, why Maya's mom isn't present anymore, the tiny little details that make these seemingly simple cases so complex. I think it's fantastic, I don't have too many complaints with this case besides the Gourdy nonsense, but it's not a huge detriment to the case. This is easily one of my favorite cases in the series and most people's as well for a very good reason.
