How different do you think some cases/games in the main series would be if it had the game play mechanics from The Great Ace Attorney?

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 04:17 PM PST

For example, in Case 1-2, Mia coming back to tell Phoenix to flip the paper to discover the receipt for the lamp would have been completely unnecessary since the moment you got your hands on it you would've been able to examine it thoroughly and discover it yourself.

    Renaming the AAI2 Cast

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 03:47 PM PST

Since the names would likely be changed in a hypothetical localization, I decided to try and rename all the AAI2 characters. The reason behind their names are censored if you want to try and solve it, with the answers ranging from puns to translations from foreign languages (if anyone who knows these languages thinks the translation is wrong, let me know.) Let me know what you think of my names and if you'd like to see me try and rename the rest of the characters in the series.

    Nicole Swift/Anna Hunt

"On a hunt" for a big story.

    Horace Knightley/Gunther Knight

Gunther has the word "gun" in it, and Knightley was shortened to Knight to sound like the chess piece, like how Rooke sounds like rook.

    Di-Jun Huang/Cheng-Bao Li

Chengbao "城堡" is Chinese for "castle", and Li "力" is "force".

    Simon Keyes/Gibby Potts

"Gib" and "Pot" backwards is "Big" and "Top".

    Raymond Shields/Michael Ayent

    "My client."

    Justine Courtney/Alethea Danielle

Alethea (proper spelling "Aletheia") is the goddess of truth, and in Hebrew, Danielle/Daniel means "God is my judge".

    Sebastian Debeste/Theodore "Teddy" Best

"The" Best. (This was probably my least favorite name, because how do you beat "Debeste"?)

    Particia Roland/Sharleen Autte

    "Surely not."

    Jay Elbird/Connor Victor

Removing the "or" sounds from both names gets you "convict".

    Sirhan Dogen/Inushi Ryoku

Inu "犬" is Japanse for "Dog", and Shiryoku "視力" is "Sight".

    Jeff Master/Buddy Taysten

    Taste buds.

    Katherine Hall/Evelyn Green

"Evergreen", like the leaves used in tea.

    Dane Gustavia/Luch Shiyeda

Luchshiy "Лучший" is Russian for "Best", and Yeda "еда" is "Food".

    Delicia Scones/Candice Calrie

Like how she gives everyone nicknames, her nickname would be "Candy", and Calrie sounds close to "calorie".

    Karin Jenson/Maddie Kate

    "Medicate."

    Bonnie Young/Dianne Quick

    "Dying quick."

    Blaise Debeste/Flint Best

    Flint and steel creates fire.

    John Marsh/Calvin Silver

    Calvin -> Calf, silver screen.

Speculation about Future/Returning Ace Attorney Antagonists (now that I've finished playing TGAA Chronicles); beware spoilers of entire franchise (so far)

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 10:19 PM PST

The next big myth arc/recurring plot element to resolve (in my opinion) is the returning danger of "super spies" and assassins (e.g. Calisto Yew, the Phantom, and Shelly De Killer).

De Killer might qualify as the remaining biggest threat of those three above-mentioned names, since he's still not imprisoned yet (having evading capture at the end of both Justice For All and AAI2).

And with the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles revealing how an international "Reaper conspiracy" greatly influenced the lives/politics of both Victorian England and Meiji Period Japan, I suspect that may be foreshadowing for what's to come in future Ace Attorney's present-day storytelling (while re-contextualizing what's come before).

e.g. Perhaps both the international smuggling ring from AAI1 (and the "triumvirate of crime" from AAI2) are retroactively revealed to have...

    1. Inherited assets, infrastructure, and descendants (of former members) of the original "Reaper conspiracy",
    2. Long since abandoned the old "justice through any means necessary" pretense
    3. Been inspired by (and thus copied) their parent organization's signature methods of abusing legitimate positions of power (e.g. prosecutor, chief prosecutor, defense attorney, prison warden, businessman, ambassador, president) to advance illegitimate goals (acquire profit and rule society from behind the scenes by any means necessary, regardless of who gets hurt/killed along the way).
    4. Quietly rebuilt their ranks after having previously been exposed/defeated in AAI1, this time (somehow) having learned their lessons to take an (even more) covert role in shaping society (perhaps being the secret third factor responsible for causing the "Dark Age of the Law")

However, if Ace Attorney gamers instead prefer a return to smaller-scale cases (instead of grand international conspiracies), perhaps we could also return to the godfather drama/intrigue of local crime families from previous cases (the Kitakis, the Rivales, and the Cadaverinis).

And on another note, a personal headcanon of mine is that Shelly De Killer is Viola Cadaverini's other grandfather (on the maternal/paternal side), with Viola inheriting/learning her love of cryptic death threats from "Grandpa Shelly." Make of that what you will. :)

And if we want to go even (further) smaller scale (in terms of returning antagonists), I'm curious if certain faction-less masterminds with big egos and petty grudges (such as Luke Atmey and Kristoph Gavin) might be itching for revenge against Phoenix, perhaps breaking out of prison for the sole purpose of making Phoenix's life a living hell (through some bizarre, convoluted murder mystery conspiracy, par for the course of Ace Attorney's antics).

Last, but not least, I'd be eager to see yet another example of the "revenge-seeking tragic antivillain" archetype (e.g. Godot, Katherine Hall, Simon Keyes), a previously normal-functioning member of society who not only wishes vengeance against their tormentor(s), but also felt betrayed/let down by certain people and institutions (examples described below).

    1. Godot unfairly accuses Phoenix of failing to save Mia
    2. Both Katherine and Simon lost faith in an ineffectual legal system (that failed to give them justice for loved ones), thus resorting to taking matters into their own hands.

A small detail in AAI-3 that kinda spoiled me about AAI-5.

    Posted: 08 Nov 2021 07:25 AM PST

So I finished Investigations 1 yesterday for the first time and there is a small detail I noticed while playing the kidnapped turnabout.

You know how every character's name and age is shown in the profiles section of court records? In that section, Shih-na's age is shown as '??' during case 3. Which is really weird because she's supposed to be Lang's subordinate and even Lang's age is shown correctly as '27', so there should be no reason to hide Shih-na's age. In fact, I'm pretty sure Shih-na and Wendy Oldbag are the only character's in that case whose age is '??' (With Oldbag there is an obvious joke that she never reveals her real age).

After noticing this I started thinking there was something shady going on about her and there is more to her than just being Lang's sidekick. By the beginning of case 5, I was already convinced that she was the culprit of this case. Then I remembered Kay mentioning something about Calisto Yew being involved in Coachen's murder somehow. I connected the dots and realised, "What if Shih-na is Calisto Yew?!". So by the time the plot twist happened, it didn't really surprise me because I already kinda knew it was gonna happen.

I think they could've simply given her a fake age or even put her real age there instead of '??' to avoid confusion.

Is Soseki Natsume's book "I am a cat" worth reading ?

Is it a good book ? I usually only read fantasy books or famous sagas (Harry Potter, Earthsea,...)
