    Phoenix feels like a side character compared to Professor Layton. Most of the plot-heavy moments are with Layton, so Phoenix feels like just some guy who is along for the ride. Heck, even Maya and Luke have more character development than Phoenix. And when Maya is supposedly killed off, he doesn't even have that much of a reaction he still his usual self with some moments where he's just sad because it would be weird if he weren't; Phoenix feels just shoehorned into a Professor Layton game and that doesn't sit well with me as Ace Attorney fan, and since the game was trying to be for both Ace Attorney and Professor Layton fans, I feel like it fails as a crossover game. Of course, there would need to be a lot of changes to the story in order to make it feel like Phoenix Wright plays a bigger, but I can't really rewrite a game in a Reddit post, so I'll just talk about something I desperately wanted to happen, I wanted Phoenix to snap. He saw one of his closest friends be tossed into a fire, yet he acts like he just scraped his knee. So hears what I wanted to happen, Phoenix gets called to court again before the Great Witch Trial, and he's so close to getting his client a not guilty verdict but Barnham interrupts to try and persuade Phoenix to put the "witch" in the fire but Phoenix interrupts him and begins to yell about how none of this is justice and that after all the people Barnham has sentenced to death he should be put in the cage. The crowd goes silent and Judge asks Phoenix, "Do you know what have you just said?" then Barnham explains that accusing an inquisitor of wrongdoing must prove a his point in a sword fight (because why not). Phoenix is obviously not okay with this but is forced into dueling with Barnham, not with a sword but with a shield, because he is a defender. Phoenix is reasonably terrified after hearing this and asks Luke and Espella what he should do, Espella suggests taking his words back, but it's obviously to late for that, so Luke suggests using his "Objections and Hold It to throw off Barnham." Seeing as there's no other option Phoenix and Barnham get into position and the cutscene ends, this is where the gameplay starts. The battle will basically be an action packed cross examination with Phoenix and Barnham will both have five credibility points and during the struggle, Barnham will give a testimony about how he is in the right while slashing at Phoenix and what the player has to do is perform a "Hold It!" to get more of Barnham's reasoning or point out the flaws in his logic by presenting evidence (which are events that have happened during the game because it wouldn't make sense to use evidence relating to the case) to stun Barnham so Phoenix can ram into him with his shield, causing Barnham to lose one credibility point. Each hit will cause Barnham to have a new testimony (one for each hit point). At the end Phoenix will be victorious and his client can go free (yay).

    Ace Attorney Turnabout Big Top Confusion

    So I just finished Turnabout Big Top and despite having some problems with it, I enjoyed it overall. However, one thing that's confused me, (I'm not talking about the cloak landing on the bust!) was why Russell Berry wore Max's hat, cloak, and flowers when he went to the lodging house plaza. Was there a reason for this? Why would he do this? Am I missing/forgetting something?
