    A Misconception about Godot

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 02:02 PM PST

Lately, I've noticed that there seems to be this misconception regarding Godot's plan in 3-5. Specifically, there seems to be this perception that he was willing to murder a nine year old child, which isn't true.

Let's look at Godot's plan from the beginning: sometime before the case starts, he listens in on Morgan and Pearl's conversation in the detention center. It's there that he learns about the plan to murder Maya by having Pearl channel Dahlia's spirit, and finds the letter before Pearl does, somehow.

We know Godot didn't warn Phoenix about what was going on because he wanted to play hero and didn't particularly like Phoenix however, this doesn't necessarily mean that he intended Pearl to channel Dahlia, as evidenced by this piece of dialogue:

    Godot:
I knew that the time was drawing near. Since I knew the plan, I thought I could foil it. My goal was to outwit the plan. I thought if I could do that... ...I could keep that girl from being caught up in it.

Afterwards, he contacts both Misty, Maya's long lost mother, and Iris who was only to get involved in the event something went wrong. Sure enough, the day in which the plan is to be carried out arrives, so, what exactly were they planning to do?:

    Godot:
That night... The night of the crime. There was just one way to stop Morgan's evil plan.

    Phoenix:
    You mean Pearls, don't you?

    Godot:
We had to make sure she didn't channel Dahlia Hawthorne...

In context, this bit of dialogue is followed by a flashback to the scene where Misty asks Pearl if she'd like to go up to her room to read books together. What this means is that was their initial plan to distract her. Unfortunately, things go south really quickly. Pearl doesn't show up at Misty's room, instead going to the Inner Temple out of worry for her cousin, and Misty hastily channels Dahlia so that Pearl can't.

It's not really specified how Godot obtained the cane-sword, either in the games or the anime; however, this curious bit of dialogue reveals something interesting about the way that Misty handled their plan:

    Godot:
The day the plan was to be carried out arrived soon enough... We met for the first time at Hazakura Temple. That's when your mother showed me her special staff... I realized it then... Just how far she was willing to go... She was ready to use that sword to protect you from Morgan Fey, if necessary. ...Yes! Even if it meant paying the ultimate price.

Now, look closely at the words in italics. The two of them only actually met on the day of the murder meaning that while Godot might have contacted her about Morgan's plot and how he was going to counter it, they likely weren't in close contact. As such, this means that it was Misty's idea to bring a weapon of any kind along with her. Not Godot's, Misty's. Now this doesn't actually mean that Misty was willing to kill Pearl; not at all. But, it does mean that Misty was more prepared in the event that something went wrong with either Pearl channeling Dahlia or her having to channel Dahlia. This implies that either Godot didn't think to bring something to control the medium Dahlia was possessing or he genuinely believed things would go smoothly so he intentionally didn't bring one.

It's unknown what Misty was actually going to do with her sword-cane. We know that she showed the hidden blade to Godot in order to reveal just how far she was willing to go to protect Maya, but that doesn't necessarily reveal what she was going to do if Pearl channeled Dahlia. It's possible that she was planning on using the "cane" part to knock Dahlia unconscious and use the Spirit Severing Technique on her, but it's still uncertain.

Whatever her plan was, it's likely that Godot was supposed to do something similar when Misty channeled Dahlia. But he underestimated how much hatred he held towards the spirit, and in a blind rage, stabbed her through the chest.

There was never actually meant to be a murder that night, it just happened. Godot even goes on to admit that the plan was stupid in nature, and it just as easily could have resulted in Pearl's death as it did Misty's.

So, was Godot/Misty/Iris' plan extremely flawed and the failure of it due to carelessness and poor planning on the part of the former two? Yes. But, was Godot necessarily willing to kill a child? No.

What would happen when "the wrong person" died in Turnabout Sisters?

The wrong person being Maya. What would happen then? By the way, in this scenario, Mia is alive.

What's your unpopular opinion about the franchise?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 10:29 PM PST

Mine is that I personally liked Trials and Tribulation the least out of the original trilogy. I found The Stolen Turnabout was a pretty meh case and I hate Recipe for Turnabout more than Turnabout Big Top. Turnabout Memories and Turnabout Beginnings were decent, but they're like a side dish to the main course, so I really can't say much more than that. I feel that Bridge to Turnabout is the only excellent case in the game, however, all the final cases in the trilogy are excellent so no surprise there. One major thing that bothered me throughout the game, especially in Bridge to Turnabout, is that because of the series' "no spoilers" policy, the characters all seem to have dementia. They either completely forget that previous events happened or remember them in a way that's inconsistent with what actually happened.
That being said I still enjoyed the game and it does deserve some credit. I found Turnabout Memories to be my favorite first case in the series, I liked Dahlia as an antagonist, and I also enjoyed playing as Edgeworth. Overall not a bad game, but I don't like it as much as everyone else does.

So what're your unpopular opinions regarding anything in the franchise excluding shipping.

Random theorycrafting about The Kidnapped Turnabout

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 03:13 PM PST

If you could rewrite The Kidnapped Turnabout to actually include Phoenix Wright in its story, how would you go about it?

I know this case is gasping for air with how many characters are in it already, but considering that Phoenix, Maya and Pearl make a cameo in this case, and the fact that you could feasibly get a lot of humor and references from the badgers and the Gatewater Hotel (both being related to very important cases from Wright and Edgeworth's history together), it seemed like something interesting to think about.

Questions in Ace Attorney Investigatios 2 Case 3

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 02:36 PM PST

I just finished this case. I was thinking about the kid that appeared at the first part of the case after the flashback. In the Winter Room, in the part where Ron and Desirée are there, there is a little kid there too, identified as '???????'. This caught my attention, and I would like to know if he is relevant to the story. Please avoid spoilers. Picture

Am I the only one,who is too oblivious about puns in characters names?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 09:44 AM PST

Like, the only puns I could understand easily, are "April May",and "Sebastian DeBESTe". That's it. Any other pun I would notice either after game makes a joke about this pun itself,or either some other people get it and explain it.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 11:14 AM PST

I am just about done watching a playthrough of ace attorney trilogy. But the youtuber i watched haven't covered the other games. I was just wondering how i could get the best enjoyment from the remaining games. Is there someone on youtube i should watch that you recommend? Or should i get the games myself? I have a ps4, iphone, mac. I searched a little for a new youtuber to watch, but no one had an enjoyable personality:/

One of the things, which made investigations tolerable for me

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 04:27 AM PST

In DD and SoJ,when you examine some place, and point at thing that you've already checked — IT SHOWS THAT YOU'VE CHECKED IT. It easily solves the problems in previous games, such as when it's either 2 things in one hitbox,or when it's a little thing you MUST check, but it's near the thing you also can check. If someone will say, that it's"too nerfing and hand-holding" — I'm a casual, and I'm tired of searching up playthrough every two seconds.
