Let's try another. Right to the point:

What if, during the Dahlia Hawthorne "kidnapping" case, Eagle River lived up to its reputation, and Dahlia really did die jumping into it?

Making A Tier List Based On YOUR Votes! Rise from The Ashes

    Posted: 13 Nov 2020 02:12 AM PST

The case at hand here is Rise From The Ashes.

This case is very controversial too. Unfortunately, I don't like it much, since the first day was not fun at all, and I think it's too long. Anyway, you may vote for your opinion, and maybe explain in the comments.

Also, should I calculate the average tier or just use the most voted category to place the cases?

    An Interesting Observation about AA6...

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 07:38 PM PST

I have a...mixed opinion on Rayfa, to be frank.

While I like her far more than say, Nahyuta or Ga'ran, Rayfa is character which I feel embodies the core, fundemental issues behind Spirit of Justice. She's a character awkwardly designed around having a full arc in half a game, whose arc isn't able to conclude in relation to the one she started with, and is left wholely unfitting for the world Takumi created.

Moreover, Rayfa's character is hindered by being....a complete and utter brat, to be honest. While this is the point, it doesn't change the fact that she's insufferable, in basically every way. She continually advocates for the excecutions of innocent people, belligerintly insults Phoenix constantly while clinging onto him, and just acts incredibly unpleasant for much of her time onscreen without any real growth.

Of course, this is supposed to be Rayfa's base character, with the idea of her growing out of it...only she never really does, with her actual role in the narrative being shockingly small. Nothing of what she does ties into the games narrative arc beyond being a motivator for Nahyuta to work for Ga'ran, her interactions with Phoenix never truly go anywhere as a result of Apollo, who she's never even spoken to, taking position of protagonist, and she never really has to change her life, she just has new mom and big bro so that makes things better. She's purportedly the games main heroine, but she never really does anything to justify that position.

I was honestly left baffled regarding Rayfa as a character for quite some time. I was left wondering if, indeed, she was just supposed to exist for the games new big mechanic, or if there was some kind of larger story that was just lost somewhere in the development cycle. And then I went over some extra materials...and something kinda clicked with me.

This is a character design included in AA6's artbook pretaining to the games original setting, the only one which we have. It's pretty well known by fans the original plan for AA6 was going to be a "criminal court" which operated purely outside of the law, and this character, as stated in the artbook, was the prototype for Rayfa.

As one can see, clearly she was designed to be older than Rayfa, and was designed to be a "street" girl, so to speak, reflecting the original planned setting. There's no much to the design otherwise (other the INCREDIBLY short shorts), but it existing at all says a lot, especially because it made me rethink a couple things.

If I had to guess, it's very likely, highly probable even, that Rayfa as a character was not ever written with the intent of being part of AA6's final story. She's actually a remmnant of the games original idea, where she would be the new and very different assistant, a grouchy, sharp-tounged girl who constantly acted abrasive towards Phoenix, but, as is standard with AA main characters, had some kind of deeper past which reframed how she acted and how it tied into the story at large.

This neatly explains why Rayfa in the actual AA6 feels so superfluous. Once the staff decided on Khura'in as a setting, they wanted to keep the games new "heroine" intact because they liked the idea of Phoenix constantly clashing with someone during investigations. So they aged her down a few years, made her a princess, kept her incredibly abrasive demeanour and poof, they made the games "heroine", even though they couldn't fit her into the new story they'd decided on in a manner outside of "royal daughter".

Makes you wonder, what was going to be the ideas regarding the original character, and what exactly of Rayfa's original story is even remaining in the final game? We'll likely never know, but I think this explains at least a few things, and could allow us to look at how exactly the game progressed in a new way.

    Lotta is best girl

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 06:20 PM PST

Anyone who says otherwise should be ignored. Lotta is funny, she is a very important witness, her photos kinda saved Edgeworth and Maya, and she's got a nice afro. Those are the objective reasons but I also have some personal reasons.

She is a photographer, which is the same job as my girlfriend. She also is from the Heartland (Missouri I think). For those of you who don't know, the Heartland is the Midwest. I was born and raised in Nebraska and met a lotta (heh) nice people there.

    Lotta is best girl.

(This was mostly satire. I just think Lotta Hair is a really fun character.)

Do all of the games that were never ported to American consoles (Gyakuten Kenji 2, Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken, and Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Kakugo) have English patches? I heard that Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken has one but I don't know about the others. I'm planning on buying a Japanese 3ds so I can play these games and I have preschool level knowledge of the Japanese language.

So I just finished Apollo Justice

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 10:11 AM PST

and what the FUCK is the Mason System. It looks like a computer simulation but what's happened in it is referenced in court, not to mention the evidence gained from it is also used and accepted in court. It also jumps through time, like before Zak Gramarye died and after, while also maintaining a single timeline for Phoenix. Is Phoenix Wright able to jump through time or something????? It's so confusing and its not explained at all. Did it really happen or is it a computer simulation?

Bonus Question: How did Vera know to draw the charcoal under the painting to match each of Apollo's cases? It's used as a cliffhanger after the first investigation phase of the 4rth case and never referenced again. I am so confused right now, did I miss something explaining it?

Some questions/opinions I have about Dual Destinies that may not even have answers

    Posted: 12 Nov 2020 02:39 PM PST

So I beat Dual Destinies for the first time yesterday after having tried to get into it a few times over the years and just dropping it after the first case (I'll be real the first two cases were abysmal in my opinion) and I have some questions about some things and also just some things I wanna say. Some of these questions might just be blatant plotholes, but I tend to miss stuff so I should ask anyway.

Okay so my main question is, why the hell did the Phantom not let Starbuck go down for his crime? He had no reason to stop the trial and accuse Athena, if he'd just let it go, wouldn't he have gotten away? Blackquill would've likely been executed, he could've gotten the psyche profile back, torn it up, and left to never be caught. Accusing Athena and getting Phoenix involved just led to him being caught for both of his crimes.

Another thing, the dark age of the law subplot seems completely incoherent to me. It was caused by a prosecutor being found guilt of murder, and a defense attorney being found to forge evidence. Okay, fine, but why didn't Manfred Von Karma or (AAI2 spoilers) Blaise Debeste cause the dark age of the law when they were caught then? What about (AAI spoilers) Calisto Yew or Godot? And hell, how did running an illegitimate trial in the first place END the dark age of the law? Wouldn't that just make people trust it less? The trial was based on a hostage situation, and ended with the suspect being shot, how would that ease the public at all? I just don't really understand the dark age of the law plot, it seems like a worse version of what Apollo Justice already did and even that was flawed, though I liked it a lot more than this.

Okay last thing, and this is inspired by another post I saw here and isn't really a question, but why did this game have an entire case about how the ends don't justify the means, but then end with someone holding a bunch of innocent people hostage and running an illegitimate trial with the conditions that the hostages would likely die if the trial went poorly? Did the ends justify the means then? They seem to sympathize with Aura (who granted is one of my favorite characters in the game) even though she clearly handled everything horribly.

Okay rant over. If there are genuine answers to what I said that I missed, please let me know. I enjoyed the game, don't get me wrong, it was honestly a great time but a lot of it frustrated me. I can say I'm a fan of it but good lord I do not understand some things.

what is written on bruce goodman's ID?

my friend has been playing the AA trilogy for the first time recently and noticed a weird detail after getting to turnabout goodbye. Bruce Goodman's ID seem blurred. while you can usually make up the words on the front, i have no idea what the words on the back mean. all i see is a "100%" in the middle and "police department" at the bottom right. the blurred things on the left seem to be bulletpoints? does anyone have any idea what the back of the card means?
