Welcome to /r/AceAttorney - Updated FAQ for newcomers, before you post

Hiya! Always glad to see newcomers in this niche fandom of ours. Hope you enjoy hanging around on this sub!

Now, this'll be Version 2 of an FAQ I put together a while back, in which I'll outline a short list of common questions that are regularly asked in new threads, to try and keep the clutter down a little. Of course, you can start by checking the subreddit's rules in the sidebar, as those are good general guidelines as well.

    • What's the best order in which to play the games?

Ace Attorney is mostly written like a novel series. The best way to enjoy it is to start at the beginning, and proceed through the games in release order. Check this subreddit's sidebar, under the heading, "Recommended playing order".

    • I played/am playing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, but are there any more Ace Attorney games coming to PC, Switch, Xbox One, or PS4?

We don't know yet. Capcom hasn't announced any more ports or remasters as of this posting, but (purely in my personal opinion) it does seem likely.

Capcom's been on a trend of remastering and rereleasing games from quite a few of their many franchises in recent years, and it seems that the new Phoenix Wright Trilogy remasters are selling quite well, so for now, consider it a good chance that we'll see more. Again, though, there's no official word yet. If you'd rather not wait, the rest of the series is generally available on more than one different platform, so you can seek out other methods for buying the rest fairly easily.

    • I finished the Phoenix Wright Trilogy. Which other games in the series are worth playing?

All of them. Ace Attorney doesn't have any games that are considered "bad" by general fandom opinion, and they all contribute to the overall story and timeline of the series. Check that sidebar!

    • I finished the Phoenix Wright Trilogy. Are the mobile versions of the other games any good?

Yes. The Ace Attorney games started being released on mobile devices in 2012 with a pretty bad port of the original trilogy, but every port or remaster released on mobile since has been excellent. They make an excellent way to continue on with the series, if you don't have access to the Nintendo handheld devices on which the games were otherwise released. I understand that certain recent Apple devices can have compatibility issues with a few of the games, so just check up on that online if you think it might be a concern.

    • Is there going to be an Ace Attorney 7?

This is something else we don't know with any certainty yet. Our last official update from Capcom on what's coming next for the games was a couple of years ago from this posting, but their official word then was simply that the future of the series was being worked on behind-the-scenes.

Again, given the successful sales of the series and Capcom's continued interest in it, an Ace Attorney 7 seems likely, but we don't have any official word as of now.

    • I'm playing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, and I saved in a spot where I'm stuck with a Game Over. What do?

This is a common issue in the newest remasters. In the earlier releases, when you loaded your save, you could choose to start from your most recent hard save, or the start of your current trial segment or investigation. For whatever reason, this option was removed in the new releases. Unfortunately, if you've saved yourself into a corner, you'll just have to start the case you're currently playing over again. The best way to handle this is to load up a spoiler-free walkthrough, and skim back through the case to where you were as quickly as you can. Unless you trapped yourself right near the end of one of the really, really long cases, it won't take too terribly long. Linking three walkthroughs below:

    Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations

    • Posting and commenting about spoilers

Details about how to handle spoilers are in the sub's rules. Follow them. Please report posts that don't properly handle spoilers in their title or images.

    • Posting fanart

Fanart, whether you made it yourself, or found it elsewhere, is welcome. Three things to keep in mind:

Spoilers: When posting fanart containing anything that acts as a potential spoiler, flair it properly, and if necessary, use the "hide title" option to ensure no one has anything ruined for them. If you're hiding the title, make sure to also specify which case or game the image spoils in the flair.

Credit: If you didn't create a piece of fanart yourself, make sure you include a source to the original artist in the title or a comment, and when possible, also make sure that the artist is OK with having their art shared around.

NSFW: If the fanart you're posting is a bit more risqué, be sure that you flair it as such, and don't post outright porn.

    • Do the Dai Gyakuten Saiban games have a fan translation available/in-progress?

Yes. DGS1 has a completed fan translation available on the website of its translation team, Scarlet Study. The sequel has a translation in active development, as well. If you want to ask the team about their progress, you can check in with them via Discord, using the link provided on their website's "Contact" page.

    • Is there a major Ace Attorney Discord server?

r/AceAttorney itself doesn't have one, but there is a Discord server partnered with the long-running fansite, court-records.net.

    • Is there going to be a third season for the Ace Attorney anime?

Absolutely no way to know that yet, at this point. I would personally consider it unlikely, since the anime was mainly created as a marketing tool, and its first two seasons covered the entirety of the original Phoenix Wright trilogy, which is the part of the series that Capcom most cares about promoting and using in marketing. Still, it's always possible, and if there does turn out to be a third season in the works at any point, it will most likely be announced alongside of a new game.

That'll cover it for now. If anyone has any other suggestions for questions to be included in this guide, feel free to drop them in the comments below. One more time -- welcome to our Ace Attorney community! I hope you have a great time.

I love these games. What is the current status of the series?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:48 PM PDT

I think I read a headline within the last month that said the main guy responsible for the AA games has left Capcom. Is the series dormant right now? Or do people think Capcom will continue to make these games under new management?

High Res Image of Judge's Seat?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:02 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I'm judging an online high school debate tournament next weekend, and I wanna set my Zoom background so it looks like I'm the courtroom judge. Does anybody have a high res image of this? Everything I've found so far is waay too tiny to work as a zoom background.

    thx

Question about Turnabout Ablaze from Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 12:14 PM PDT

    Where was Manny Coachen killed?

First it was in the garden, but then Alba proves it's not possible. Miles proves that they fought and Manny got killed in the dressing room, that's how Alba's blood got on the hotdog wrapper. But if that's the case then why didn't the security camera catch him going there? Unless he willingly got into the cart that covered him. But then the question is, why? Unless they fought in the garden, but Alba already has an alibi for that.

    Ace Attorney:Investigations's main problems

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 01:01 AM PDT

The way, that some characters are being accused, and Miles, the prosecutor,is supposed to save them. And it's also strange hearing from him "I will prove your innocence". It's just wrong. And also,I first thought, that Miles will be investigating cases he was assigned to,and not being a trespasser half of the time.
