Ace Attorney Theory: The world of Ace Attorney is anarchic. *Spoilers for the whole series* Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:01 PM PDT You know... When I look at the legal system at a different angle, I start to notice something awfully strange. Is anyone above the legal systems and court system, as well as governments in the Ace Attorney world? Should an attorney fill in the shoes of any court case, regardless of social status or stigma? Or do Judges hand down fair verdicts or cases handled effectively? With the right justice placed down on the right wrongdoer? The answer to all these questions is that no one is. There isn't. This is because the legal system in the games and so on has no superiority or any super-national entity. It's basically all-out anarchy. Anarchy comes from Greek "without leaders". In other words, every character in the series is motivated by a "self-help" strategy. Characters who are corrupt, Manfred Von Karma, for instance, rely on this to keep themselves in power. That is the main system in place towards the Ace Attorney universe. To fulfill their self-interests. Whether if it's good or bad, black or white, or just downright grey. Moreover, remember Furio Tigre? The guy who impersonated Phoenix Wright to get a boot on in court just to get away with his crime? Guess what? The qualifications of being an attorney(or any legal official), isn't enforced. To put it simply, any person can run up the bench Scot-free and yell out that they are an attorney, without proof of any legal identity. Coupled with the fact that the bench audience from the courthouse knows the true facets of the incidents, yet the judge only prefers to see that from someone on either the Defense or Prosecution bench. I'm taking this theory from a "Realist" point-of-view. Meaning, politics that are studied from a theoretical perspective. I've learned this in political science class in college, and I seem to take this theory in the series now that I mentioned it. On the other hand, if we go to country governments. Say, the Kingdom of Khura'in, for example. We can see that it has been liberated by a tyrant's staged coup against her sister in exchange for power. This just shows that there is no one above the international system, which can enforce international rules and laws, meaning that she can rule and change whatever she wants in her status of power. Such as the DC act. This is an example of a "security dilemma". This same thing applies to the DL-6 Incident. Any superior government, organization, the higher legal system, or anything could have investigated more on the case rather than letting the courts jump to conclusion that Yanni Yogi murdered Gregory out of mental insanity. But that cost him his entire life, leading him to a life of crime. What this hypothetical organization or higher-up court's that mediate the trials, would have looked back and found the true culprit of the case, gave Yanni Yogi compensation, and let Edgeworth decide to follow his father's career as a defense attorney with Raymond Shields? That could've saved a whole bunch of everyone. If what DL-6 would have been to the same thing about the Amara Sigatar Khura'in royal residence fire which resulted in a coup. Dhurke would be framed as an international fugitive. Despite everyone knowing in Khura'in how much of a monster Ga'ran is. Despite this, if the same hypothetical organization or legal system reviewed the case, they would not let Ga'ran seize power so easily. Instead, they would let the court know and then examine a photo of Jove Justice or giving Ga'ran the Founders Orb if they inclined to believe that she had no spiritual powers. If this happened, then things would be far worse and positive. They wouldn't be affected by political propaganda and lies. But it doesn't. Instead, the cases ranging from DL-6, IS-7, SS-5, UR-1, and the Amara case that happened in Khura'in were all the courts choosing the wrong decisions and jumping to the conclusion by those decisions. Despite what Dhurke has done, why did he still end up being the fugitive and Ga'ran in power? Why would Yanni Yogi plead insanity to find out he wasn't the murderer of Gregory Edgeworth but loses everything? Why focus on the suffering by these cases that create domino effects and give birth to Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, and Athena Cykes into careers because of that incident that led to their being? This is because the courts in the Ace Attorney world are exaggerated consequences of Japan's high conviction. This is also because every character in Ace Attorney is motivated by "self-help". They can't risk any more tragedy happening above the legal system. If we have problems in our court systems brought to you by Manfred, Blaise, Phantom, and Ga'ran. Then the Ace Attorney world as we know it wouldn't be so dark and evil in our eyes. But this is why Quercus Alba would've been able to above the law. But experienced attorney Miles Edgeworth brought him down with facts. Why couldn't the above organization stop Alba and the realization that he beyond doubt to be the offender, that would've gotten him arrested anyway instead of the long battle between him and Edgeworth. And yet, this lack of transparency is what gets ruthless murderers and criminals to their bidding. Why? Because the system in Ace Attorney is exploitive. And that's why it's anarchic. If you don't have anyone by your side, you're finished because of being "off on a technicality" kind of thing. Truth be told, with the huge mess of characters being a convoluted jumble house of relationships, backstories, and entertainingly loved personalities. You can't help but feel sorry for the world they live in, nowadays. It's like someone can kill someone and walk off scot-free. Even WHEN the attorneys who find the truth put them behind bars, but I theory that by little, they face justice. Manfred and Dahlia get executed; however, it remains unknown about the rest of the other criminal's Wright & his Co. managed to catch. Perhaps, they confuse the guards and let them leave without facing trial again? Meh. (Reference 1: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchy_(international_relations)) P.S. I know that it's from International Relations, but that's the closest I have for this theory in the Ace Attorney world. It itself fits perfectly in the realm of politics! Especially with Khura'in, Zheng Fa, and Cohdopia! (Reference 2: (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OffOnATechnicality) What is your opinion on this theory? If you agree with this or not, then please explain why. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jul 2020 03:36 PM PDT Like the title says, I find this more than a bit aggravating. Yes, channeling the dead and other derived abilities like the pool of souls are pretty impressive. However, it seems like in this series, that's the only thing that's thought of to be a spiritual ability worth any respect to a lot of characters. But stuff like Apollo's and Athena's abilities are barely chopped liver to characters like Blackquill and especially Nahyuta. Spirit mediums are good at what they do, but I don't see them with abilities like hyper aware lie detecting beyond the capacity of normal people or being able to pick out emotions like Athena can just from the sound of someone's voice. Basically, I think spiritual abilities come in more than one form, and Apollo and Athena seem to have those gifts. [link] [comments]

[SPOILERS for T&T 3-5] Question regarding channeling and possible plot hole Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:06 AM PDT So nearing the end of the case we get to the point we discover that Maya was channeling Dahlia to save Pearl or something along those lines forgive me its been a while since I've played. But one thing seems to be weird, whenever a person is channeled the person takes their hair color and traits and retain their body. So why is it that Dahlia's hair retains and doesnt change to Maya's? Is this only to hide the fact and keep it a mystery? [link] [comments] |
