Manfred von Karma is the most frustrating character in the series

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:57 PM PDT

Whenever I play AA1 or AAI1/2 I'm always struck with how much bullshit Von Karma gets away with. Like, this man has straight up said he doesn't have to substantiate his claims with evidence more than once, but in 40 years, he has only been called out on his shit twice. You're telling me that he had a perfect record for 25 years, and no one made an inquiry into a prosecutor that had rumors of falsifying evidence and having witnesses lie? There's only so far that intimidation and respect can get you, and that distance does not include winning court cases off the back of saying "They're guilty because I said so!"

Edit: My main point is that the games don't make Von Karma seem clever as much as they make him seem intimidating. The reasoning that the games give for him getting away with everything is that he just scares people into not questioning him. I feel like he would have been a more believable villain if they had just showed that he was paying people off to look the other way, but the way they executed it, he just did some obvious tampering with evidence and fixing of witnesses with only the protagonists noticing.

If there were to be another "Phoenix Wright vs. _____" game, what game/franchise would you like to see cross over?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:16 PM PDT

There are, of course, the big ones such as Danganronpa that I know of, but I'm curious to see if there any other interesting, perhaps even off-the-wall choices for what game you'd like to see cross over with Ace Attorney.

Plot hole in bridge to the turnabout [spoilers!]

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:36 PM PDT

After the earthquake happens. Iris is trapped in the cavern and dahlia in mayas body is now with Phoenix and co. When Phoenix asks "iris" where she was that night, any time dahlia said where she was (in the POV of iris) either the lock shouldn't have broken or another lock appeared. I get it's because they want to reveal its dahlia later on but it doesn't make sense.

    Ransom situation in Dual Destinies

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 05:51 PM PDT

Could Trucy have used her knife skills to escape it? I'm not saying she should have, because obviously trauma is a thing. But is there a realistic AU where she disables Aura's lasergun-carrying hand long enough for the captives to subdue her? I don't think the guard robots could seriously hurt anybody in such a small period of time.

It’s weird, but the only character without any interference from others during the cases are the unnamed Judge.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 01:58 PM PDT

Barring Justine Courtney who is named, why don't the unnamed Judges have their role in cases while still being neutral and making legal judgements on cases by the defense or prosecution?

Would this be considered a crime IRL? [AAI2-5 Spoilers]

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:15 AM PDT

Simon Keyes sent letters to Jill Crane and Blaise Debeste that he knew would likely cause one to murder the other. However, as Simon points out, he never used the word "kill" or any similar word in the letters, and never instructed either of them to kill the other.

Before he's revealed to be the body double's killer, Simon brags that because of this, him sending the letters is not a crime. But do you think he'd really be untouchable IRL? Do you think he could still be prosecuted for murder? He never directly incited violence, and he most certainly didn't coerce Blaise (plus Blaise is a grade-A asshole), but he most obviously knew that violence was likely to come about by him sending those letters.

If someone sends letters to people that do not directly encourage violence, but knowingly sends the letters in a way that may encourage the recipient to kill someone (i.e. by revealing that they know information), could they be prosecuted?
