Some Sound Issues With Ace Attorney On Android

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:01 PM PDT

I have DD, SOJ, and DGS 1 on my android they were all legitimately bought, they also all have one consistent sound issue. When a character is talking the text box doesn't make the typical beeping noise but rather broken variants. I've restarted my phone, uninstalled and re-installed every single game (aside from DGS but I'm sure it would result the same) and nothing has fixed. I play many other games on my phone and they've never had this kind of issue.

I was wondering if: 1. Anyone else with DD SOJ and/or DGS 1 has had these problems and what they've done 2. If there's any other possible solutions I could try. 3. If anyone knows any reasons why this would be happening

I use an Android Moto Z3

    DGS Case 4: Post-Episode Thoughts

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:12 PM PDT

... Case 4's done, here are my chronological thoughts.

    • I know nothing about this case aside from having heard a fair few people complain about it. Last one was pretty damn good, though, so I'll head into this with whatever degree of optimism I can.

    • I'm just gonna mention that I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing that extremely Japanese pronunciation of "Watt-u-sohn" in the opening cutscenes.

    • Oh, hell -- Megundal's dead? That's... not what I expected, assuming it's true. So what -- was it him trapped inside the burning omnibus?

    • I appreciate Vortex's specific mention that no one has died "yet". He knows what series he's in.

    • I know it's completely intentional for historical accuracy, and I'm not faulting the game for it, but I don't think I'm ever going to quite get used to such open use of casual racism in the script, least of all when it's never really even challenged.

    • Oh, no, someone stabbed a giant matryoshka doll

    • Will there ever come a time when Inspector Casual Racism isn't eating anything?

    • Why yes, Ryu -- that is the same short, pink-haired steampunk girl you saw yesterday. ... You don't know many others, do you?

    • Hey, step off, Iris -- I called him Ryu first. Adding the extra 'u' doesn't make your version unique.

    • Iris performing her own little Deduction segment was fun. This "investigation" has dragged horribly otherwise, though -- I've been at this for over an hour, and I haven't actually investigated anything. It's been nothing but characters rambling this entire time.

    • On to Investigation, Part Two. ... I miss gameplay.

    • This, children, is what we call "overusing a joke". The tea-spill gag has gone from amusing to exhausting in just one conversation.

    • Look, it's something incredibly obviously suspicious that I don't get to examine yet.

    • Off to yet another room CAT

    • You don't see Holmes anywhere? Knowing him, he's hanging from the ceiling just out-of-frame.

    • Oh, there he is. Just being perched on a book pile actually seems rather tame, for him.

    • That's a nice injury Garrideb's croissant-headed posture has been hiding.

    • A bookmark, with a tiny, tiny kiss mark on it.

    • So I'm gonna venture a guess and say the tea-spilling is deliberate, now. ... Still doesn't make it any less tiring, mind.

    • Be sure to play The Great Ace Attorney! It's got rampant racism, domestic abuse of the disabled, and no doubt even more wonders to come!

    • Whoa, who the hell -- I'm sorry, did this costume shop disaster take a wrong turn on his way to the Layton crossover?

    • And the other guy here is just a talking chin. Like Popeye after a series of bee stings.

    • ... Hold on, were those two guys relevant at all? Like OK -- I've had a minute to laugh at how amazing their designs were, but then they just fucked off like nothing happened.

    • Well, Ryu, you're a bit slow on the uptake, but at least you can improvise haiku on demand.

    • So, what -- someone's arranging the deaths of anyone Van Zieks actually fails to convict?

    • OK, mercifully, this investigation segment is finally over. I think I actually got to investigate a screen a total of once. Beyond that, it was at least two hours of dull rambling with a single Deduction segment near the end for flavour.

    • This jury includes a bootleg Vault Boy

    • I've getting a sudden craving for the exact handful of regenerating fish-and-chips Gregson always has on him.

    • Ah, boy -- we just gonna do the "everyone votes guilty" thing five minutes into every trial?

    • My, what astonishingly convenient coincidence. London's a big place for this juror to have just happened to be working within a hundred paces of the crime scene on the day of.

    • Yeah, OK, wow -- how mind-bendingly convenient. Oh, fuck it, I suppose I'll take it. I hope there's at least a clever justification later on, like half of this jury being involved in a cover-up or something.

    • ... You're kidding me. I made a joke earlier about Juror 6 being in a green coat, like the victim. OK, this is completely intentional, right? Because at this point, it's either that, or some spectacularly stupid mystery writing.

    • ... OK, Ryu calling out for "Juror 2" and "JUROR 6" was a good joke. Maybe undercut a little bit by having Susato explain why it's funny right afterward, but still.

    • So, my going theory at this point is that this entire thing was staged. I'll take a shot in the dark and say that... Vortex was behind it, for reasons I can't yet guess?

    • I don't mean to sound like I'm shitting on this case too hard, but what percentage of the dialogue assigned to Van Zieks begins with him breaking something and then saying, "How (adjective) of me to (insert alcohol container he broke here)"? Because it feels like that percentage is too high.

    • So, while Van Zieks is busy being a racist dick and shutting down this argument with his own zero-evidence explanation, let's play a round of "Name the Jurors"! Two already have names, but for the rest, in order, I think I'll go with "Racist Bonnet Bitch", "Victorian Vault Boy", "Grumpy Muscles", and "ha ha old can't hear isn't this joke funny"

    • HE'S GOT A GUN

    • "The core philosophy of our empire is tolerance". ... Well, in fairness, the Judge is at least one of like five British characters I don't remember having said anything racist yet, so I guess that can stick.

    • So, what -- did she happen to throw the knife at her husband, too, only for it to perfectly hurtle out the window and hit the victim?

    • ... That's what happened, isn't it? You know -- when I complained last case that the jury felt pretty pointless for most of that trial, I didn't mean that they should be this ridiculously personally involved in the case.

    • Oh, right -- I suppose we didn't actually finish cross-examining these two clowns, did we? That's a shame.

    • I hate both of you so much. It's almost admirable how quickly they've managed to achieve that.

    • Cross-examination's done. Seriously, these two are repulsive.

    • This episode: Van Zieks changes his mind and agrees with Ryu for no discernible reason.

    • So, looking over the evidence again, it's bothering me that the book in the victim's hand is clearly not burned, and that I can't tell if that's an artist's mistake, or just something I'm not allowed to point out until later on, when it's been obvious for a long time.

    • "Sure, let's examine the pipe. ... Oh, there's an incredibly obvious bit of evidence no reasonable person on Earth would fail to notice inside of it." ... Fuck this case.

    • Oh, wow, that's right; the jury's still here. I'd almost forgotten, given how long they've spent being quiet.

    • So yes -- the victim stooped down to pick up the book when it landed, and then the knife hit her. I assumed as much about two hours ago, so this doesn't exactly feel like a big, dramatic revelation.

    • So a woman was nearly stabbed to death because some mook forgot to remove a love note from a book. What a world.

    • Oh, hey, it's Holmes! I'd almost forgotten what it was like to have likeable characters on-screen.

    • Those four colours on Iris' little... gun thing are familiar. Shades of the Super Famicom?

If you've read this far, it's probably obvious that I kind of hated this case. I want you to believe that I really tried not to assume the worst of it just because I've previously heard people say that it sucked, but it suuuuucked. The entire thing was just stupid contrivance upon stupid contrivance. Turnabout Big Top levels of absurdity in how the stabbing was carried out, and how Souseki was framed for it, and scores of instances where the player could never have guessed at something because the next reveal was completely reliant upon a previously-non-existent bit of evidence suddenly being submitted. Three of the five witnesses were annoying.

Souseki was pitiable, but annoying. The one thing I did actually like about him was his hilarious insistence upon always calling Holmes "THE Sherlock Holmes", like no matter what, he genuinely believes that's his full name.

Speaking of Holmes, he put on a much better display for himself here, after coming across as kind of a dick for most of Case 2. He was hilarious, and provided about the only fun part of the entire overlong investigation phase.

Gregson seems like a decent guy, though the casual racial slurs are as wearying as ever.

The Garridebs: John was not terribly interesting, but I liked him, outside of the overused tea-spilling gag. Joan just veered repeatedly between tolerable and annoying. Little else to say.

Shitty Police Couple: Fuck these two, I hate them both.

The jury still feels pointless for a lot of the trial's runtime. Their dialogue mainly exists just to fill time, and in the trial's final third, they pretty much stop existing until it's time for the verdict. It doesn't help that so many of them are just one-note gag characters. I swear that about half of Juror 6's dialogue was just "Eh? What'd you say? I'm a deaf piece of shit who didn't hear you."

Susato is... less boring here? She exhibits actual personality traits beyond "polite" fairly often, at least. A whole lot of her dialogue is just her acting more competent than Ryu, who basically loses all confidence every five minutes during the trial.

Just finished T&T's case 2...is it me or it was weirdly tough for a second case?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:05 PM PDT

I'm on the Trilogy, just finished AA and JFA.

The first case was, well, like a first case: straightforward, no real difficulties.

But dang the second one, that's me or it was tough for a second case? (or maybe I'm just lacking sleep).

Also two things on that game: the prosecutor has his place in my heart, and the "court begins" theme is just mature content for your ears

Why the kid is a Monk? i thought only the women could do channeling and were therfore accepted in the order?

I guess some things will be explain, but it's an awful lot that have change since 3 x). Look more like the new director didn't do his homework right xD, and make a big mess.

Edit: And it seems it was me who didn't do my homework correctly! my bad and apologies for the nonesense said here x)

Compared to Investigations 2, how does DGS1's fan translation compare?

    Robin won't show up, help?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 10:09 AM PDT

I'm currently stuck in Turnabout Academy from Dual Destinies. The reason I'm stuck is because Robin won't show up in the lecture hall. I've investigated the stage, the maintenance area, the hallway and the art room and yet they won't show up. If it helps, I'm on the 3DS version of the game.
