Welcome to /r/AceAttorney - FAQ for newcomers, before you post

Hiya! Always glad to see newcomers in this fandom of ours. Hope you enjoy hanging around on this sub!

Now, in this thread, I'm gonna outline a short list of common questions that are regularly asked in new threads, to try and keep the clutter down a little. Of course, you can start by checking the subreddit's rules in the sidebar, as those are good general guidelines as well.

    • What's the best order in which to play the games?

Ace Attorney is mostly written like a novel series. The best way to enjoy it is to start at the beginning, and proceed through the games in release order. Check this subreddit's sidebar, under the heading, "Recommended playing order".

    • I played/am playing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, but are there any more Ace Attorney games coming to PC, Switch, Xbox One, or PS4?

We don't know yet. Capcom hasn't announced any more ports or remasters as of this posting, but (purely in my personal opinion) it does seem likely.

Capcom's been on a trend of remastering and rereleasing games from quite a few of their many franchises in recent years, and it seems that the new Phoenix Wright Trilogy remasters are selling quite well, so for now, consider it a good chance that we'll see more. Again, though, there's no official word yet. If you'd rather not wait, the rest of the series is generally available on more than one different platform, so you can seek out other methods for buying the rest fairly easily.

    • I'm playing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, and I saved in a spot where I'm stuck with a Game Over. What do?

This is a common issue in the newest remasters. In the earlier releases, when you loaded your save, you could choose to start from your most recent hard save, or the start of your current trial segment or investigation. For whatever reason, this option was removed in the new releases. Unfortunately, if you've saved yourself into a corner, you'll just have to start the case you're currently playing over again. The best way to handle this is to load up a spoiler-free walkthrough, and skim back through the case to where you were as quickly as you can. Unless you trapped yourself right near the end of one of the really, really long cases, it won't take too terribly long. Linking three walkthroughs below:

    Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations

    • Posting and commenting about spoilers

Details about how to handle spoilers are in the sub's rules. Follow them. Please report posts that don't properly handle spoilers in their title or images.

    • Posting fanart

Fanart, whether you made it yourself, or found it elsewhere, is welcome. Three things to keep in mind:

Spoilers: When posting fanart containing anything that acts as a potential spoiler, flair it properly, and if necessary, use the "hide title" option to ensure no one has anything ruined for them. If you're hiding the title, make sure to also specify which case or game the image spoils in the flair.

Credit: If you didn't create a piece of fanart yourself, make sure you include a source to the original artist in the title or a comment, and when possible, also make sure that the artist is OK with having their art shared around.

NSFW: If the fanart you're posting is a bit more risque, be sure that you flair it as such, and don't post outright porn.

That'll cover it for now. If anyone has any other suggestions for questions to be included in this guide, feel free to drop them in the comments below. One more time -- welcome to our Ace Attorney community! I hope you have a great time.

    Oh no

Definitely rough, but I had a couple of free minutes at work and some random pens and sharpies around me, so why not draw one of our favorite attorneys? I really need to practice on arms and hands though.

An anime adaptation of Apollo Justice could potentially resolve some of the issues I had with the game.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 08:09 PM PST

I'll admit, I haven't watched the anime adaptation of the Trilogy all the way through, but I am aware that it expounds upon certain plot points that weren't entirely fleshed out/were only mentioned in passing in the games (such as Phoenix's reaction to Mia's death and Franziska + Edgeworth's life living under von Karma).

Now, here's the thing about Apollo Justice. I think that Kristoph could have easily been the best villain in the franchise, but that they sold him short; they didn't do him justice. He was underdeveloped due to an unbelievable lack of screen time (in my personal opinion) and I believe he should have been imprisoned a bit later on in the game to have the player get to know him.

The final standoff with him was tragically short, and I was left wanting to know more about his character because he was just so interesting. The way he looks down on everyone, his psychopathic obsession with his own self-image and his skewed concept of what the law is fascinated me to no end. I was also so curious to find out more about Klavier's relationship with him. I feel it's implied that Klavier looks up to Kristoph while Kristoph only seems to tolerate him, which is an interesting dynamic, but what does it look like? I want it to be shown to me, instead of me having to guess at it. And how does Klavier really feel about Kristoph being a murderous psychopath? That's something else that was never truly explored. I just have so many questions!

My point is that, if an anime adaptation of Apollo Justice ever releases, these things could very well be cleared up, and that gets me excited. Being able to see more of what the Gavins' relationship was like and seeing Kristoph get more development would be the dream. And perhaps we could even get to see what life was like for Phoenix while raising Trucy?

    What are your thoughts?

    Ok, guys. Who did this?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 02:14 PM PST

In the first chapter, Larry is aged 23, but Phoenix mentions that he's known him for 23 years. What?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 02:54 PM PST

I can't be the first one to realize this. I just started my series replay, and not five minutes in, there's already a plot hole.

Our school had a saying: "When something smells, it's usually the Butz." In the 23 years I've known him, it's usually been true.

But his profile lists him as age 23. So did they know each other since infancy? Is this just a typo or localization error?

    Some thoughts

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 09:04 PM PST

Look maybe PW is not for me. I was playing episode after episode and just finished JfA, and I can't continue cos of other obligations. I do have some thoughts to share though and I just wanted to talk about my experience if that's cool.

    • I love the characters, especially the repeat supporting ones, like Lotta, Larry, Gumshoe, Maggey, and even Franziska.

    • The feeling you get when you figure out the case, and when you nail an objection is so satisfying.

    • favorite episode I've played so far is Turnabout Goodbyes I like Lotta's intro, as well as Larry and the story behind Gourdy.

    • It gets progressively harder to figure out cases, and I had to rely on some guesswork and strategywiki to get some hints to progress with the game.

    • the plots get kinda dark and tragic when you stop and think about it. I mean the Miney sisters, Acro's story, and Celeste's -- damn that's just sad.

    • I dunno if anyone else thought this, but I found the plot behind Turnabout Samurai hard to follow. I had to read it again on wiki to understand it once I finished that episode.

    • that vase minigame is the most evil thing ever.

    • I know this is a bit dumb, but I do wish that Mia hadn't died and that she and Phoenix were together.

I got to use the PW:AA cornered trial music in my college sociology class

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 08:01 AM PST

I was comparing video games to other art forms and used the intense trial music from the first game in my music segment.

    Most overrated characters for you?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:59 PM PST

What are some characters that seem to be super popular within the community but you just don't like? Other than some of the DGS characters I don't think I'd consider any character in the series overrated, so I'm curious to hear what characters people think are overrated.

So I’m replaying the original Ace Attorney trilogy on Switch

Taking my time to screenshot some great one-liners from Edgey-boy and Wrighto...

How did I just notice that 1-5 happens on my birthday wow @.@ (I'm happy though because Rise from the Ashes is one of my favorite cases from AA1)

Can I skip directly to investigations after the first game?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 09:28 AM PST

I just finished playing the first game which was really great, that last case was something else!

I see there are at least two different playable characters in the series: Edgeworth in the Ace Attorney Investigations Game, and Apollo in his own game. I looked at some aspects of the Investigation game and it looks really interesting and I would really like to give it a shot

Should I go for it, or is it worth it to go with the series chronologically

Does anyone else just not like the 3D models of Phoenix and Apollo?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:43 AM PST

These have bothered me for a while and I need to ask if anyone actually likes them over the 2D sprites. I'm fine with Athena because she was built with 3D in mind, but Phoenix and Apollo just look off.
