    Introduction

    It's been around 2 month, and even more for me because I started to look at tier lists when I wwas bored this summer. So I'll begin (well the post is already long but you know...) by saying a huge thanks to people who voted (and even more for those who did everyday).

    Also, for disclaimer, and we'll come back to that in the V, this tier list and its results doesn't mean a case, or a game doesn't deserve to be played. Every AA game should be played, and despite its results here, many people (including me) liked to play AAI1, or DD, or AJ, or VS. These games aren't bad by any mean. And I'll (also) come back to this later but the ranking of a case doesn't mean you won't enjoy it. So, play everything and you'll be able to have you own mind about these cases and games.

    And, also, I didn't know if I could put links to parts from the summary so if you know how to do (or if it isn't possible) tell me in comment it would really upgrade the readability.

    III Comparison

    Well as you may not know I did globally the same thing (globally) this summer and posted it in october. I was working with the tier lists that are uploaded here in this sub. I had issues in the fact that I only got 60 results and this for the trilogy. For DGS it was 20. No need to say that VS had only two tier lists so I didn't do it. 60 or 20 can't be enough so I decided to ask directly to this subreddit and started the series of poll you may know of the existence if you are here.

    I was kind of disappointed of the accuracy of what I've done. Like I said in my posts that were the problem with the fact that many people posted tier lists after playing the trilogy only.

    It hasn't change lol but we'll come back to it later.

    V Issues

    1. Limits of getting a general opinion

    First, when I said earlier that some of the issues of my first ranking were still here, I was talking about the fact that the trilogy has boosted results. I'll make a poll after everything to see if 1. I can rely on you guys with being serious five seconds and 2. the results can change.

    Like, the people who only played the OG will obviously in 99,99% of the cases put S to 3-5, 2-4, or 1-4. The fact is that after playing all games, you can judge with more accuracy. For example I have put A tier to 3-5 and 2-4 for a long time after playing I2 and G2.

    There is that, but also we'll have to say that this ranking cannot reprensent the entire AA community, only the people who are on Reddit. And I don't want to talk about sociology because I don't know much about it but it's evident that this subreddit isn't representative of the whole AA community.

    Also, this subreddit is ***** biased. DGS2-3 grabbed 4 places. And all the other DGS cases have got down. Except DGS2-1 who took one place. BUT you just beat recency bias (which we'll talk about later) with CASE CONTEST BIAS. I mean, I don't say DGS2-3 is a bad cases or that it doesn't deserve that much but the recent case contest has created a sort of hype around this case, that was slowing down with the progressive vanishing of recency bias. Why DGS2-3 and 2-4 won? Because no one hate them. But the majority never considered that they were the best cases. I mean, these are well placed don't get me wrong, but they only managed to go through more loved but more controversial cases like DGS2-5 and 3-5 (yes 3-5 is more controversial).

    So what I say is that DGS2-3 has profited of this and so this case is biased to death.

    Now we talk about number of votes.

    Here we can see for every cases:

    And it is not that much readable because the final cases were always the one with more votes so I did another per games.

    We get this:

    Well we see that when we put spoilers (S) it is really lower. But, the OG has clearly more votes than every other. And VS is the lower so I'll tend to say that VS isn't THAT accurate regarding to the others. And more, we see that despite spoilers, DGS tend to egalize with DD and SoJ which hadn't spoilers. We can conclude that DGS and OG being the most played games, the result are biased in their favor (many people and many of the actives were introduced by DGS and only played it and the OG).

    2. Biases on you opinion

    Here I want to make you remember that we didn't say it enough in the case contest (despite saying it a LOT), there are nostalgia bias, plus recency bias that makes OG and DGS even stronger than with what I showed you.

    First for those who contest these bias, I made my brother play these games (not all I have to translate him in live AAI2 in French and damn that's hard and long) and he said me by playing Turnabout Visitor (AAI-1) that he loved the case and that it was easily the best first case he made. No need to say that a few days later it already went down in his opinion. For nostalgia, I cannot say because he hasn't played enough games to see a difference.

    But think of it. Are we not all at least a bit nostalgic of the emotions we felt playing PWAA? Turnabout Goodbyes, RftA, I still consider them as excellent cases despite being less deep than a lot of other final cases for 1-4. (RftA is already pretty deep). I'll always have a sort of affection for these cases because these were the first time I played AA.

    BUT ALSO I already said it during the case contest, that pacing wasn't an argument because it depends a lot of how you played.

    And actually everyone's whole experience is biased. I mean, I played AAI2 in holidays with all the time I needed, I was relax and all, and I played DGS2 after class, by being stressed. I prefered AAI2. Moreover, I had to play DD and SoJ with Citra on my phone and it was a real pain to make it work. The sound was really bad, my phone became hot in 20 min (CPU at 60°C NICE). I don't like DD and SoJ that much. Coincidence? Seriously who think it is.

    The games we love all depend on how we played it and that's why I'll remind you that this ranking never pretended to be objective. I don't know if 3-5 is OBJECTIVELY better than DGS2-5. None can say because by seeing arguments your brain activates confirmation bias and you refuse to hear it.

    This being said for those who read until there, this poll will not say if you'll like a case or not. What will, is in what conditions you play these cases, so I highly recommand not to do my mistakes (lol) and try to play all games with a good mindset, with the ideal conditions.

    A resurgence of love for Apollo Justice (AA4)?

    When I first got into ace attorney and started browsing this subreddit, in around 2014, there were very few things ace attorney fans could agree on. But one thing most people seemed to land on, was that Apollo Justice was by far the worst ace attorney game. Its best case was the first one, which is very short, and besides that the game had a limp second case, an infuriating and nonsensical third case, and a final case that both butchers phoenix's character 2 weeks post T&T and where the final villain has a breakdown screaming the name of a character you barely played as. I agreed with this general opinion, and am not a fan of the game at all, with the only characters I enjoy in it being Apollo and Trucy.

    However, scrolling the sub and the internet now, it seems that everyone adores this game. I've spoken to so many people who think it's the best game in the franchise. I find this utterly baffling, and I was wondering what people think in general. Has this game risen from the ashes to be most people's favourite? Is this just a loud vocal minority? And what do you think of AA4? If you're a big fan, please explain what you like so much about it, I'm really interested!

    I thought Hosonaga was going to be a main character villain, I know it's strange, but the way he was always coughing up blood and getting no answers about it, made me say why would they add that detail.

    Also, for fun. I never thought Judge Jigoku would've been a criminal, I thought he would probably help out with the case, and probably meet English Judge, I never even had the foggiest thought Judge Jigoku would do this. I thought the story about him breaking the witness stand was him getting riled up in anger about the justice system.

    Examples: Athena being a protagonist, going against Simon Blackquill or maybe a new prosecutor? Connor Hugh, Robin and Juniper being the main characters? Or something else? Some more backstory on different characters (flashback episodes)?

    So I Just Finished Justice For All...

    I recently posted about finishing the first game and wanted to give my thoughts on each one as I played them, and yes... I did binge playthrough the next game lol.

    So as an overall game, I think I have to say that I prefered the first game more, but man, Justice For All did have some really great parts in it. First off, Farewell My Turnabout... I don't think I need to say anything more about that. Just blew my mind. I was able to see the reveal ahead of time, but man the dread was palpable and I really had no clue how I was supposed to get out of that situation. It was great.

    I usually hate when Amnesia is used as a plot device, but I'm honestly ok with it here since it was just a goofy thing to explain the tutorial. If they had tried to push it into the main story I would've been upset, but thankfully they didn't.

    Big Top was a slog to get through. By the end I kinda liked it a little bit more, but definitely maybe my least favorite case so far. The coincidence with the cape was a little hard to accept. Which is saying something for a world where all this crazy stuff happens lol.

    All of the main characters were great and I feel like this game did a lot for overall narrative. While I think the first game was a smoother ride, this game had some undeniably amazing stuff.

    I had heard that this game wasn't liked as much overall, but I think going in with slightly lower expectations actually helped me see the parts that were great.

    Also the music isn't bad but I definitely like the courtroom music from the first game more.

    One thing confuses me about 1-5 Rise from the Ashes

    I absolutely love the final moments of that case, one of the best moments in the original trilogy.

    But Phoenix said that the picture of Prosecutor Marshall was presented by Gant after Phoenix refused to show the cloth. And while that was the case, it was also shown before that because Lana gave it to him in the Evidence Law book, and Phoenix took it out before he refused to show the cloth.

    Is there something I'm missing here? Was the picture not valid evidence until Gant said it?

    Oh, and also why does Lana accept you as her attorney at the very start?
