What's your favorite first case in the series?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 09:06 PM PST

I have to do a short story in english class. It's english as a second language and it's WAY below my level. When the teacher said "mystery detective" was an one of the genres we could choose from, I thought of ace attorney, like all of you would. So I thought I could make this project which would otherwise be really boring an adaptation of one of the first cases.

I thought I could maybe adapt one of the first cases in the series, but I had a hard time choosing. I also have to put a bit of character development in there: the main character has to grow in the end.

People seem to praise T&T for it's first case, however I disagree. There's no real plot twist and most of the drama comes from us already knowing some of the characters. It's only there as a set-up and I personally think the whole case in general is kind of boring. I'm not saying it's a BAD first case, but I don't think it's that much better than the other 2 in the trilogy, unlike popular opinion.

I think investigations' first case is one of the few parts of the game that is good.

Investigations 2 is imo, maybe the best. And I don't think it's just because of the soundtrack. I just think the twists are that good and the pacing is really good.

Turnabout Trump is one of the best, easily. As far as I know, it doesn't leave THAT much unexplained. I could answer the questions the player is left with at the end by adding some stuff in. Although it would leave people unfamiliar with Phoenix very confused about many actions of the characters.

I think Dual destinies is just pretty much average. There's a VERY interesting twist at the middle, but aside from that, I don't remember much. It's one of the only first cases that has extreme amounts of tension.

I think Spirit of Justice case 1 is also really good, but it's mostly because of the whacky witness, the introduction of Khura'in, the asthetics and overall the way it set ups the entire story. It wouldn't fit well with a self-contained short story

Of course, this is going to be just a short story, so I can't end it with a cliff hangar. Choosing one of the cases that leans heavily on having a follow up (you know the ones that you can't imagine without the "to be continued", otherwise there's too many missing elements) would be a bad idea.

But keep in mind this poll is strickly about "which is the best", not which one would be better in my short story, if you want to talk about that, just respond here.

Note: I didn't include the first two cases because I doubt many people will vote for them the maximum of choices is six, so I thought it would be wiser to include dual destinies and spirit of justice.

3-4 is the single best trial day in all of ace attorney

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 07:17 PM PST

I always 3-4 being overlooked as kind of a filler case and almost disregarded in a way with very little love

But imho. This case in it's entirety of just 1 trial is the best core ace attorney section in any of the games

It flows so well from question to question. Each time you offer an argument dahlia/edgeworth are quick to offer a rebuttal and you are straight back into the action

The contradictions you need to find are never blindingly obvious but are never a blind leap in logic either. It's genuinely fun to figure it out and you never feel lost

It doesn't drag either with pointlessness. Yes it's easy to spot the killer but the way the questions and arguments from dahlia/edgeworth are framed it never feels like you've figured it out 30 minutes ahead of the others

Whilst it's not my favourite case as a whole, if I was trying to show someone new to the series the best example of core ace attorney gameplay, it would be this case

What are some Ace Attorney Fan Theories you know about guys? So far, the games haven't left many mysterious unanswered (other than Kristoph's locks) so I was wondering if there's other secrets that the fans are curious about.

Bridge to the Turnabout plot hole

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 06:39 PM PST

I was watching a playthrough of the trilogy and I noticed a few things. First of all, a major part is when it's revealed that Iris and Maya channeling Dahlia were switched during the earthquake. However, Phoenix breaks some of Iris's psyche locks after the quake.
A more minor thing but something concerning is the appearance of Maya when channeling Dahlia, namely her hair. Whenever Maya or Pearl channels Mia, their hair remains intact, but for some reason, channeling Dahlia causes Maya's her to have Dahlia's braid. We know Dahlia didn't do the braid by hand because when she leaves Maya's body, Maya no longer has the braids.
There's also the matter of clothes. Where did Dahlia get ahold of one of Iris' robes? Since Iris is still wearing hers when she is found, we know that Dahlia didn't strip her or something like that.
If you have an explanation for anything I mentioned, feel free to comment.

I mean,he is somewhat relevant in the first half of the trial, but then he gets COMPLETELY replaced by Kristoph, and I literally forgot he existed there.
