Trials and Tribulations, recipie for turnabout... If edgeworth. (Minor spoiler I suppose?)

    Posted: 23 Feb 2021 05:24 PM PST

So... I am a relatively new fan of Ace Attorney.
Got into the games about a month ago, just finished recipe for turnabout. (The 3rd case in the 3rd game... OR the 2nd if you don't count the tutorial)

It starts with a fake Phoenix wright failing a trial.
However, I just love to imagine how it would have gone, if Edgeworth had been the assigned prosecutor during said trial.
    "I am phoenix wright!"
    "no you are not."
    "Yes, I a..."
    "NO... YOU ARE NOT!"

I dunno, I just want to see that animated or drawn so badly. xD
(First time posting here, I hope it is okay)

If a jury system were to be included in Ace Attorney 7, which characters from past games would you like to see return as jurors (Possible Spoilers for Ace Attorney 1-6 and Investigations games)

    Posted: 23 Feb 2021 10:43 AM PST

Hey, everyone! I've been thinking a lot about what gameplay mechanics could be included in Ace Attorney 7 lately, and out of all the options, I think that including a Jury System would be the most likely to include, due to DGS and the fact that the Jurist System from Apollo Justice was abandoned in Dual Destinies.

I think this would have a lot of advantages. For one, it would eliminate the need to shoehorn classic trilogy characters, like Larry or Pearl, into cases in order to reference them, as them being a part of a five or six juror team during the trials would cut down on their screentime and wouldn't need to involve them in the mystery directly. They could still have puzzles revolving around them too, and I'm going to use an example I've already commented about on this sub. Maybe Pearl is a juror in a trial where Maya is a witness, but due to some political complications she's facing as Master of Kurain (maybe a ban on spirit channeling in court proceedings after the events of Spirit of Justice?) she can't testify about what she was doing on the night of the crime, and it would turn out that she was called to do a channeling by someone, but she couldn't due to the new law. You would have to question Pearl, who reveals information about the Master of Kurain that isn't public, and compare that with Maya's own statement to find the contradiction.

Another advantage I could see it having would be that it could allow for them to expand on Athena's abilities as well. Since Athena's ability is centered around hearing discord in the hearts of different characters, it would be interesting to see how they'd develop that with five or six different jurors at once. Maybe you'd have to point out which character is causing the most discord out of the group of jurors, similar to the Closing Argument in DGS. I don't think it would be a good idea to use the Mood Matrix on the jurors, though, since that might make the trials feel too bloated if you could use it on both witnesses and jurors, so let's just say that the main prosecutor of the game doesn't allow for the Mood Matrix to be used in court, and that it's now been relegated to investigations only.

Finally, it would give Phoenix an organic progression in his character development, which would be a huge plus. A lot of people don't like how Phoenix's character seemed to regress in Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, and I feel like bringing back the Jurist System would be a natural way to ground Phoenix's character again, since you could retcon it so that his initial Jurist System didn't work out because of the biased nature of how the evidence was presented in the trial, and because of the rumours of the Dark Age of the Law perpetuated by news outlets. You could also retcon this as the reason why Phoenix was studying foreign legal systems in Dual Destinies as well as a secondary reason for going to Khura'in in Spirit of Justice, he wanted to regain the trust of the legal system, and the only way he could think of that would be effective in doing so would be to go to the countries in-person to study the legal systems himself, often without studying them in detail before going there (we have to give some reason why he didn't know about the DCA in Khura'in.) This would help to give him a background role in the story as well. He could still get the tutorial case and the filler case, and he could still fill the role of mentor, but he would be tied up with fixing the legal system alongside Edgeworth in the background for the majority of the game, which would allow for Athena to take center-stage as the protagonist of the game with three new cases that would all develop her as a character, and you could give Apollo the DLC or Rise from the Ashes-style bonus case in Khura'in so that it doesn't affect the pacing of the game too much.

Which leads me back to the main topic of the post. Considering how the Jury System would fundamentally change the traditional Ace Attorney formula, which characters from the six main games and two investigations games do you think would fit well in the game as jurors?

From the Original Trilogy, I could see Pearl and De Killer working out well. I've already talked about Pearl, but it would be funny if De Killer showed up as a juror and nobody recognized him, especially if it was during one of Athena's trials where she has no idea who he is.

From the Investigations games, my vote goes to Detective Badd, Delicia Scones, and John Marsh. Detective Badd could be a juror in a trial centered around the Prosecutor's Office or maybe one with international ties if they decide to go that route, and you could have a throwaway line mentioning how the security at the Prosecutor's Office sucks since he's been able to break into it before, or they could reference the Yatagarasu in the case of an international case. Delicia Scones would just be a fun character to have around, since no one from the main trio of lawyers knows her, which would be like a reverse situation to Edgeworth meeting Regina or briefly encountering Mask Demasque in Investigations 2. You could have her as a juror in a poisoning case, where her pharmaceutical knowledge would come in handy, and you could have her reference that she remembers the days when the Jury system was still in effect in her native England, which makes the cast question how old she really is. Lastly, it would just be cool to see John Marsh all grown up, seeing how much he's changed since the events of Investigations 2. I don't know what kind of mystery he'd be involved in, but he could have knowledge about being a judge due to his mother being Justine Courtney, which could probably be useful information in the right situation.

For the modern trilogy, I feel like there's a lot more potential characters that would work well as jurors. Spark Brushell would probably be the best journalist character for the role, and Valant and Lamiroir could make for some solid jurors if they were used in a stage production based mystery. From Dual Destinies, Juniper could work great in the tutorial case as both an introduction to her character as well as an opportunity to further her trial experience, and Solomon Starbuck could be a really good fit if they want to have a final case related to Athena's past. Finally, from Spirit of Justice, Bonny and Betty and Uendo would probably be the most unique options to choose from, as they both had a pretty important role in their respective cases, and they're the best fits for juror roles that aren't from Khura'in or the DLC case.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on who should reappear as a juror in Ace Attorney 7 in the comments below!

Do you think Ace Attorney 6 is more of an "Author Tract"? *Spoilers are Open*

    Posted: 23 Feb 2021 10:55 PM PST

    https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AuthorTract

Everything in Ace Attorney 6 really fits this trope from TV Tropes. Is this accurate to the whole story and cases that all mean oppressive governments and usurping a legitimate rulers sovereignty into tyranny?

To me, I really feel that Yamazaki put a lot of effort into Ace Attorney 6's writing about structuring the cases all into five cases, but I really felt that he preaching his beliefs about everything into Ace Attorney being equal to stuff in real-life. Can it be true?

Imagine any protagonist's thoughts about every 5th/4th(rarely) case in their games.

Like, imagine Phoenix going:"Damn,it's another fifth case! Who am I gonna annihilate in court today? Maybe some country's president? Or another (1-5) Chief of Police? Or maybe I'm gonna wrap up in another ass-old case solving which will change the future of the country?".
