(1-5 spoilers) Subtle, beautiful Edgeworth moment that stood out for me but also broke my heart

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 11:41 AM PST

When Edgeworth calls Ema Skye as a witness to testify, he's determined to uncover the truth of the SL-9 incident at first. Up to this point he'd been fairly cooperative with Phoenix too.

But once Phoenix starts cross-examining Ema, Edgeworth's attitude shifts quite dramatically and he goes back to being a hardass.

Despite repeatedly being confronted with evidence that blow holes through Ema's testimony, Edgeworth raises a ton of objections to dismiss Phoenix's legitimate claims as "ridiculous" or "impossible", even outright saying "Do you really need to torture this girl any further!?" and at some point if you make a wrong decision he says that Phoenix should get the death penalty for making Ema cry! This might seem odd since this is the part that he'd be most interested in given that his reputation as a prosecutor depends on SL-9.

So why is he suddenly a dismissive asshole to Phoenix when the truth he wanted so badly is right in front of him?

Even without knowing about the leather square, the truth was beginning to point to Ema accidentally pushing Neil into the suit of armor. The jar position was the most incriminating evidence, and Edgeworth's constant objections of "ha ha ha your defense is ridiculous" over that damn jar seemed particularly unreasonable... until you remember his backstory.

Edgeworth spent nearly half his life haunted by guilt over the death of his father. There are remarkable parallels between DL-6 and SL-9: Miles and Ema were both traumatized after witnessing a murder at a young age, with both murders occurring during a blackout making an accurate recollection impossible. And, most tragically, both made an attempt to protect someone which (allegedly) led to their death. Fortunately, in both cases this turned out to be false, but Edgeworth didn't know that yet. The way I see it, when he saw Ema at the witness stand with Phoenix pressing her to recount the events of the murder again and again, he was reminded of his extremely similar traumatic experience and wanted to shield her from the same guilt he had to carry. Even Mr. Lack-of-Empathyworth is visibly shaken by the revelation when it's outright stated to the court and if you make the mistake of showing the leather square too early he yells at you for decisively tying Ema to Neil's death, which is a departure from his usual indifference and snide remarks whenever you fuck up.

Iunno, I could be looking too deep into it, but I always disagree whenever people say Edgeworth's behavior in 1-5 is inconsistent or weird. I think they deliberately made Ema's role in SL-9 so similar to Edgeworth's in DL-6 because it gives him a (heartbreaking) reason to want to protect her when she's on the witness stand, even if it means going against Phoenix and derailing the search for the truth. No one really talks about this part but it was a moment that stood out so much to me and gave me unexpected feels over something so subtle, yet so beautiful.

Gregory Edgeworth AAI2 clean/uncompressed Voice Clips

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:09 PM PST

So while searching out assets from AAI2 (they're a bit hard to come by, it seems), I came across a blog dedicated to the game. On said blog was a recording from SungWon Cho AKA ProZD, the guy who provided the voice clips for Gregory Edegworth. The recording was a clean and uncompressed recording of all the voice clips.

I was a bit surprised to have found this, to say the least. So I clipped all the audio, and here it is. So if anyone is making a fan-game, but wants Gregory's voice clips to be a bit higher quality, you're more than welcome to use these. You don't have to credit me, just take them and get to work.

Why is the 3ds ace attorney trilogy not exist in German despite the Nintendo ds versions of those games having German translation?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 05:28 PM PST

Also the crossover game with Layton is translated in German too. While all the other games aren't.

I can read in English no problem. But german is much more easier for me for riddles as stuff

Trials and Tribulations Case 4 (Spoilers)

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:14 PM PST

I was thinking about the Terry Fawles case and a lot of the ending of the case doesn't make sense. Terry Fawles is apparently declared guilty despite all of the evidence leading to Dahlia Hawthorne. Speaking of Dahlia, she openly commits perjury (I guess not a crime in Ace Attorney games) and is involved in the poisoning of Terry Fawles. He literally died in court saying that he is drinking the Love Potion from Dahlia and dies immediately afterwards. Speaking of which, how did dahlia Hawthorne get the poison? I don't believe she was affiliated with Doug Swallow at 14. Mia Fey should have won that case as she proved he could not have been there at the time of the murder and the fact that Dahlia Hawthorne was with the victim for a 30 minute interval. The fact that edgeworth won that case shows the utter weirdness in the legal system there. It's not innocent until proven guilty, it's not guilty until proven innocent. However in Ace Attorney Games it is guilty until someone else comfesses to being the killer (Logic and Reasoning after all the facts of the case have been presented that there can only be one killer is not permitted) but in this case, the flaws are only accentuated. Last Question: Terry Fawles drank the death potion and died almost immediately (he got to say a few words). Why didn't they run a case for his murder? P.S. I know terry at the end said he didn't want innocence at that point he just wanted trust but that shouldn't stop the court, at least I don't think
