Wouldn't it be cool if one of the defense turned out to be the villain?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:00 PM PST

Imagine they introduce a new attorney named something like Janus.

He seems shy and secretive at the first of the trilogy, becomes a great member by the second game and intrigue is built has he helps the team investigate a conspiracy that seems to connect the murders.

Finally comes the end of the trilogy, the fans having grown attached to this new attorney as he and the team unravel more and more of how deep the conspiracy goes, suddenly in the last case Janus is suddenly arrested.

Phoenix and the gang choose to defend him of Corse, quickly deducing a certain witness is the killer and cornering her to the point where her conviction seems inevitable.

But one off handed comment causes phoenix to have a flash back to the beginning, and to several events over the trilogy causing him to have a horrible realization.

Janus is the killer, and the mastermind behind the conspiracy from the start.

Now phoenix has to convince his fellow attorneys of their former coworkers guilt, and once that's done they have to face down a man that earned their trust, became their friend . . . and learned their every tactic and weakness.

What do people think of Gant? [1-5 SPOILERS]

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:48 PM PST

Personally, I think Gant is the epitome of an amazing AA villain. He's menacing, he's ruthless, he's depraved, and arguably the most powerful villain that Phoenix has ever faced excluding (6-5) Ga'ran. He's, in my opinion, not only the best villain in AA but one of the best villains in video game history.

That being said, I don't see him talked about that much. What do you guys think of him? Do you think his excuse of killing Marshall as the only way to get Darke because of how broken LA's legal system is as legitimate or just self-justification? Do you think, deep down, he genuinely cared about other people? What do you think of his quote that he'll give anyone $50, no questions asked, (the following is unsaid) but that he'll also kill two people over what can be interpreted as nothing but overreactions? What of his blackmail of Lana and his (unintentional) traumatization of Ema? What of his theme, his striking presence, his fantastic breakdown?

Gant is a criminal mastermind, but he has his trappings. It's clear he doesn't think things through, that he's vulnerable to passion. He's not a genius or good at covering up his tracks. He's no (AJ) Kristoph Gavin in his paranoia and intelligence - he likes to run things his way via brute force and blackmail. Gant is not a criminal mastermind - he's a normal guy who had to do bad things in order to catch a criminal. In essence, he's a darker, more passionate, less grounded, less intelligent version of (AJ) Beanix Wright. He tried to pull a Xanatos Gambit, but failed - simply because he wasn't smart enough. He can't think things through. In retaliation, Phoenix pulled one himself with the cloth and Gant was stuck. Pinned. But this wasn't like 3 years ago - whereas a cornered fox can be more ruthless than a jackal, Gant by the end of 1-5 was no fox, but (The Lion King) Scar when he's surrounded and murdered by the hyenas - a lion slain by the animals he put to into power.

But what's the general opinion on the guy? I haven't seen a lot of talk about him.

For which DS game does your opinion deviate the most from general consensus?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:16 PM PST

I limited it to the DS games because Reddit only allows 6 slots. So I think this poll is straightforward, but just in case here's an example. While Trials and Tribulations is often thought to be the best game in the series, it's my personal least favorite of the original trilogy.

Spirit of Justice thinks it's so punny. Round 2.

Whoever told me that case 3 would be worse wasn't lying.

Trust In Me and Believe In Me were doing the rites for the Lady Killer. Some also Prays a lot. And I'm barely done with investigation day 1... That's Horrible :| I guess these Khura'inese people also love o play Catch Them All...

Charitably, it's funny maybe a few times, but it's so immersion breaking when I have to play spot the pun upon meeting a new character.
