CAPCOM "Leak" Megathread #2: Temporarily Comprehensive Edition

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 04:34 PM PST

OK, opening a new thread. Thanks to some extremely generous help from a certain user who wishes to remain anonymous, I've compiled all the important information that we currently know about this alleged and increasingly plausible Ace Attorney leak, following Capcom's data breach.

The most important takeaway is, of course, Capcom's apparent plan to rerelease the Dai Gyakuten Saiban games as part of a collection also including the Phoenix Wright Trilogy. This includes full localizations for DGS and DGS2. I've thrown together some images summarizing what we know, which I'll link here. Other potential leak details will be at the bottom of this post.

    DGS LOCALIZATION INFO

DGS COLLECTION CONTENT, PLATFORMS, AND LANGUAGE INFORMATION

    OTHER GAMEPLAY FEATURES

    MARKETING INFORMATION

Beyond this DGS collection, we have an alleged release schedule for Ace Attorney's 20th anniversary year. This schedule mentions a development window for the DGS collection, as well as a release window for Ace Attorney 7. There is a mention of the DGS team being moved to the AA7 project, and one of the idea for an Ace Attorney 4/5/6 collection being considered. This 4/5/6 collection's existence will apparently depend on the sales of other releases.

Capcom has apparently also been negotiating with Amazon Prime and Netflix to make the Ace Attorney anime available for streaming on both platforms.

Going forward, please limit any posts of images taken from Capcom's servers to the comments of these Megathreads, rather than making separate posts.

(That covers what we know for now. Check this space for updates!)

Listen, if this DGS collection is real, we'd better support the HECK out of that thing.

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 06:10 PM PST

Like seriously, this series needs the support. If the leaks are anything to go by, it's implied that Capcom is looking at the sales of the DGS collection closely and needs it to do well. Coupled with the fact that this is essentially the longest, meatiest and (imo) one of the best AA games when paired together, it just cannot fall under the bus. I hope everyone else feels the same.

CAPCOM "Leak" Megathread: Everyone Calm Down Edition

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 11:36 AM PST

Alright, fine - I was hoping to avoid this, but here's a big thread where we can all discuss the alleged "leak" from the Capcom data breach.

ALL FURTHER OPINION OR QUESTION THREADS ABOUT THE LEAK WILL BE REMOVED. PLEASE JUST USE THIS ONE INSTEAD. WE DON'T NEED FIFTY "MY TAKE ON THE LEAKS" THREADS.

In summary - Capcom was hit with a ransomware attack recently. They didn't pay up to the hackers' demands, and so there's now a huge trove of "leaked" game development information going up online. To avoid any potentially messy legal issues, I recommend that you all avoid dumping any of that information on this subreddit directly. I'll summarize the Ace Attorney-related info here. If anything new comes up, don't hesitate to tell me about it, so I can add it to this thread.

    • A Phoenix Wright Trilogy-Dai Gyakuten Saiban bundle: the biggest bit of potential Ace Attorney news thus far indicates the possibility of an internationally-released game bundle on PS4 and Switch, featuring the 2019 remaster of the Phoenix Wright Trilogy and the two Dai Gyakuten Saiban games. If this is real, and Capcom's plans haven't changed, it would mean a localization for DGS.

    • "Herlock Sholmes": in the face of the well-known legal issues surrounding a potential DGS localization, Capcom seems to have internally pitched and discussed the idea of changing Sherlock Holmes' name (in their typical tongue-in-cheek fashion). I presume this would also include light script changes to avoid other potential legal problems. If I were to guess, most other characters in the games would not have their names changed. Maybe just the ones who are supposed to be English, but still have Japanese puns in their names, like Cosney Megundal.

    • Capcom's 2021 release schedule: a potential release calendar image is making the rounds as well, indicating an intention to release a new bundle featuring Ace Attorney 4, 5, and 6, as well as a release for Ace Attorney 7. If these plans are real, however, COVID has likely delayed them.

Now that there's a leak about DGS getting localized. It's time to point out that Janet Hsu is credited in both DGS games.

I'm as excited as anyone about the leak, but I feel bad for Scarlet Study. Just know that no matter what happens, I'll always appreciate all the work you've done for this fanbase, and I'm sure many others feel the same way.

    Place your bets: AA7 edition

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 08:58 PM PST

AA7 may have been fully confirmed. In light of this I would like to ask a few questions about what you personally think AA7 will be like.

    • What characters do you think will return? • Do you think AA7 will introduce any new recurring characters? • When do you think it will take place? • do you think 2D sprites will return, or will the 3D models come back? • What are some pun names do you think could(or should) be used? • Will Phoenix be the main protagonist again? • Will there be a new prosecutor? • Do you think it's the start of a new trilogy? • What case gimmicks do you think will be used for AA7? • What costumes do you think will be added via DLC?

AA7 What would it be about?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 07:59 PM PST

Since the Leaks showed a possible release of Ace Attorney 7, what do you think? Who will be the main Character? How will the Story progress since the Trio is kinda split since the last game? And what would be the plot of the game?

So, I just finished Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth for the first time. Here are my thoughts.

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:29 PM PST

Yeah, I finally got around to playing and completing it after all these years. Overall, I did enjoy it, though I don't think I got as emotionally invested as I have in the main series. Regarding the characters:

    • Kay feels like a Maya expy, though it is pretty funny having a self-proclaimed "thief" team up with a prosecutor.
    • Ema's appearance in the third episode, while small, was welcome.
    • Shi-Long Lang hating every prosecutor just by the actions of one seems off to me, though maybe the sequel explains it better.
    • I was hoping that Zinc Lablanc was the second episode's killer so that he could get arrested. He's really annoying. Cammy Meele just feels like (Justice for All spoiler) Mimi Miney again.
    • Seeing Manfred von Karma again was a welcome surprise.
    • Someone give Lauren Paups a faithful boyfriend. She's way too cute.

People who already played DGS1 with the fan translation: will you replay DGS1 with the Capcom translation when the collection comes out or jump straight into DGS2?

The plot twists in the first game are crazy good!

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:45 AM PST

I'm a newcomer to the series, so I started with the first game and the game is so good! I'm currently on the fourth case, and when the case starts you see a gun being fired and then edgeworth in another scene holding a gun. I thought it must've been Edgeworth who shot the gun, until the game showed me it was actually the caretaker, UNTIL VON KARMA WAS THE PERSON WHO SHOT. I literally audibly gasped at that point, I thought I knew the gun was about the current case not DL-6, the plot twist was so crazy good it caught me off guard. Tldr- I have no idea why I didn't play these games earlier.
