Ace Attorney x Among Us character tropes

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 06:54 AM PDT

After watching all those Ace Attorney x Among Us video parodies, I decided to come up with my own AA x AU character tropes. Here is the AU playstyle of our favorite AA characters.

On the crewmate side, we have:

    • Phoenix: Tries to think things through but also bluffs his way to victory.
    • Miles: Always uses logic to produce conclusions, never bluffs, is easily unnerved by sabotage.
    • Larry: Doesn't do tasks or help find out who's the murdered, just follows the girls around the map until he gets voted off for being a creep.
    • Maya: Is always close to the scene of the crime. Always gets blamed in the first round.
    • Dick: Has figured out who the imposter is but nobody's paying any attention to what he has to say.
    • Ema: The first to complete all tasks, always on the lookout for sabotage.
    • Pearl: The one that reconciles people when everyone starts blaming everybody.
    • Franziska: Consistent and reliable, but will occassionaly miss crucial clues.
    • Godot: Acts like he knows it all but is the biggest noob of them all. Always blames Phoenix.
    • Kay: The fastest moving of the lot. Always patrolling near potential crime scenes.
    • Sebastian: 9/10 times he's a noob, but that one time he isn't, he'll single handedly win the match.
    • Apollo: One of the best players but he just wants to relax.
    • Athena: Tryhard. Will not let Apollo relax.
    • Trucy: Acts like she knows nothing but is surprisingly perceptive.
    • Klavier: Spends half the time screwing around and the other half messing with Ema, but can play well when he wants to.
    • Simon: Rarely speaks, but whenever he does, the imposters shake in their boots.

While on the imposter side, we have:

    • White: Uses fancy words in chat to convince people he's not the imposter.
    • Von Karma: Nearly perfect killer, but he can make one mistake that will ultimately cost him the match.
    • Gant: Is a perfect killer when he has prep time, but he can botch when things don't go as planned.
    • Engarde: Threatens that he'll get your best friend killed if you vote for him.
    • Hawthorne: Sloppy killer who's easy to crack, but unless multiple people catch her in the act, nobody will believe she's the baddie.
    • Alba: Uses hacks that make it impossible for people to vote him off.
    • Debeste: Is the lobby admin. Kills people in plain sight and bans those who blame him.
    • Keyes: Master of sabotage, turns people against each other. Doesn't do the killing himself unless he absolutely has to.
    • Gavin: Impossible to catch in the act, impossible to connect to the crime scene. Only gets voted off because people don't like him.

    Most underrated character?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 07:39 PM PDT

Like the title says (sorry if this has been asked before!) There are lots of good (and some bad) AA characters that are widely recognized as such, and a few that spark a lot of debate, but I'm wondering—what are some characters that you guys think deserve more appreciation/recognition than they get (both from the games and the fanbase?)

I could probably come up with a few, but the first one that comes to mind is Agent Lang. The Investigations games have some flaws that hurt all the characters a bit, but in general I think he's a funny and interesting character and a generally decent guy. Most people seem to like him fine, but I rarely see fanart or even much talk about him.

Anyways, I'm curious to see if people agree and what other characters they think are similarly underrated!

I'm currently on the 2nd part of the 2nd investigation, I've heard will powers is supposed to show up in the department of criminal affairs after I'm done talking to matt engarde but he's not showing up? Is this a common bug on the 3DS version of the game? (btw I've talked to everyone I can talk to about everything I can present to them and closed and open the game again)

Money is the mastermind -- an in-depth analysis [Major Spoilers, all games]

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 04:09 AM PDT

Note: this a remaster of an old post I made a long time ago.

Good vs Evil is a trope as old as storytelling itself. Ace Attorney is no exception, as there is one ultimate hero and one ultimate evil that lurks behind every story. It's not Phoenix, it's not Edgeworth, and it's not even the Judge.

No, the entire story is an epic struggle of the hero Winston Payne and the great evil, Money the Monkey.

    Justice for All:

During Farewell my Turnabout, there's a point where Mia is channeled by Maya, who is currently being held hostage by De Killer. Mia looks for possible clues for where Maya is being held while there and gives two specific details. She states that she's on the third floor and that she's near the berry big circus.

Now back in Turnabout big top, we confirmed that Acro and Money's room meet those same conditions—they were by the circus and on the third floor. This can only mean that Maya was being held hostage in Acro's room. Acro has been arrested, so it's not like he would notice anything and it means that Matt Engarde was framed—Shelley De Killer's client was Money the Monkey. This is very important as it means Money has a connection to and access to De Killer. It seemed like an office building because it was cleaned out after the events of turnabout big top.

His motive is simple. He wanted Phoenix's Badge. Badly. After seeing the monkey head fall in Turnabout Samurai, Money was obsessed. He hired De Killer to destroy Phoenix's spirit. Using his vast wealth and power, Money began seeking help of everyone he could and as we see in Turnabout Time Traveler, Time travel is possible. This is how Money was able to send in his assassin to ruin as many of the lives connected to Phoenix as possible—Dahlia Hawthorne.

    Trials and Tribulations:

Money the Monkey went back in time to create his first person to ruin the lives of Mia and Phoenix. He needed Mia gone because a line in Justice for all confirms that she knew about his presence. Mia is warning Phoenix about the upcoming battle he doesn't even realize is going on.

Mia: You have something money will never be able to buy. Friendship.

This isn't a cheesy line from Mia, it's a very direct warning.

Everything from TT unfolded as planned. The reason Dahlia was so obsessed with her diamond plot—she said it herself.

Dahlia: Fewer siblings means there's more money to go around.

Dahlia was doing everything she could to get in Money's good graces and carried out her plot to emotionally destroy Phoenix all because he hadn't given Money that badge. She came close but ultimately failed, and Money sent her back to hell. Remember that if Dahlia wanted to kill Maya, she could have just done it the moment she figured out Maya had channeled her. It was Money who prevented her from doing this. She hadn't earned the right.

Every villain who seemed to kill someone out of greed didn't mean money as in the currency—they were all servants of the true mastermind.

Thing about how money driven the smuggling ring in investigations was—they were all behind their true lord.

    Apollo Justice:

That's what brings us to the next chapter in the story, Apollo Justice. If you conclude the real twist of the case, that Kristoph Gavin is actually Money the Monkey, then everything in the game makes complete sense.

Money decided that if he can't have Phoenix's badge, nobody can. Thus, he framed Phoenix and got him disbarred. This is when Winston's true mission comes in.

During Turnabout Trump, "Kristoph" makes a major slipup with regards to the color of the cards. Phoenix catches him on this and specifically brings up the fact that even though a color photo was submitted, Kristoph named the color before it was shown. But this case doesn't make sense at all if it was just Phoenix pulling this off.

Winston and Phoenix were working together. Winston is the best prosecutor in the game as he always brings the real killer in right from the start and sacrifices his pride by letting the defense take them down. He knows that by indicting them directly they will cover up what they can, but he can draw more information out of them by accusing someone else and letting the defense do them in.

He went undefeated for several years and unlike Von Karma is never shown to resort to forgery or dishonest means, so we can take him as a true god of prosecution. After seeing how much more crafty the killers are, he sacrificed his usual strategy and perfect record in favor of his defense play. Other prosecutors never even think to bring in the real killer until day 2 if they're not actually covering for them, but Winston always knows exactly who to bring in.

This time, he knew a great evil was behind the case as it was not only a defense attorney, but "Kristoph" or Money at that. He had no way of knowing if he could trust Apollo, so he needed Phoenix's help to take him down. You may notice that Winston submitted a single color photo as evidence, but this begs the question—why?

He was literally capable of taking color photos and yet all the other photos of the exact same crime scene were black and white. This is the proof that he and Phoenix were working together—he had a trap of his own to take down Money and this was how they did it. He's also the one to provide Phoenix (by Trucy) the forged Ace as he couldn't risk anything to win this case. Phoenix didn't want his daughter involved, so he lied and said he forged it, but that clearly isn't possible if at some point he was arrested.

This case also means that Kristoph made no effort to investigate the crime scene—after all, if he did, he would have just claimed he saw the blue cards there at the crime scene. That's because Winston denied him entry so Phoenix's plan would work.

Winston knew that Phoenix wasn't safe just yet, so that brings us to the dark age of the law that Money the Monkey caused.

    Dual Destinies:

Money's power and hatred has grown over the years and now Phoenix has to clean this mess up. Think about the Phantom's motive—he needed to deal with the rock because it had his blood (and thus his identity) on it. Unfortunately for the Phantom, Money the Monkey was a space chimp and was able to thwart that plan, forcing the Phantom to blow up the courtroom.

What's more, that rock meets all the conditions for Money's stealing—it's definitely a shiny, lustrous color. He wanted it. He manipulated everyone into finding the true killer and because Simon is in an animal themed prison, he was able to enter and exit at his own leisure.

The Phantom was working for Queen Ga'ran who knew a faceless Phantom would be the perfect one to steal the orb, and that's what kicks off the events of spirit of justice. However, they planned on giving it to money instead so he could absorb its power for himself.

That's why Winston took action. Knowing the dark age of the law is over the horizon, Winston takes a leave of absence from the prosecutors office because he knows the danger Money presents. That's why Gaspen comes in right after the case where Money and Kristoph battled.

Winston was the one to shoot the Phantom by the end of the case and was ready to destroy him.

    Investigations 2:

There's actually a rather massive plothole in this game, or so it would seem. This "plothole" is actually a clue that points to the true mastermind behind everything.

Shelley De Killer mentions that the president was a fake and that his client knowingly sent him to kill the wrong target. However, it makes no sense—sure Simon may have known that due to being a witness as a child, but how would De Killer be able to conclude that Simon knew it was a fake that far back?

Simple—Simon was being mind controlled by Money the Monkey. Case 2 proves he's more than capable of it, and it's why Money wanted the vast spiritual power to call forth spirits as well. We already know from JFA that Money had a connection to Shelley De Killer. How would Simon even get the money to hire an assassin anyway? He's a low ranking circus worker and was constantly on the run from corrupt legal figures—there's no way he'd even work up the dough to hire De Killer. It makes more sense if you consider that Money, who not only collects shiny objects but has the wealth and might of all the killers before him did instead. He mind probed Simon, who was nothing more than an innocent child being abused and finally mind controlled by an evil Monkey.

That's also why he mistakes the identity of his father—it's an aftereffect of the mind probing that distorted his memory of the incident. Those moments where the game cuts to the child Simon crying for help—those are the moments of him briefly breaking free from Money's control.

So you see, this is all conclusive proof that the true mastermind of the series is Money the Monkey. The Is-7 incident? That shiny seal Isaac Dover made? Money was behind that too. He's a time traveling rich monkey and is responsible for everything in the series.

Tenma Taro and the treasure? It's shiny, so…

Von Karma? That was one of the assassins Money hired to destroy Phoenix Wright's life bit by bit by destroying the life of his childhood friend.

Winston and Money are fated to do battle for the rest of time, and hopefully we can all somehow survive this epic clash.

I'm sure people post stuff like this all the time, so I'll keep it brief.

I'd love to get into the series. Should I shell out some extra cash to buy all three games individually on the DS because I like the pixel art, or is the trilogy on Switch a better deal?

A Turnabout where The Judge is the culprit?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:46 AM PDT

I know it may sound crazy but i think many People wants to see a case where The culprit turns out to be Judge himself. i mean we already had a case where The prosecution is a killer 2 times like Godot, Manfred and we already had a case where your defense "assistant" is a killer too Kristoph Gavin In appollo justice ofc then why dont we already have a case where The Judge is the true Culprit? Idk if people find this absurd or very crazy but if u agree on this. comment your thoughts on this i want to see what u think about this?
