What's the biggest problem with Ace Attorney - How would you fix it?

Curious what the general fan thoughts are on this, and how you would improve the next game?

There are no wrong answers. Narrative. Gameplay. Characters. Case Design. Anything.

In your opinion, which of the first 3 games has the best soundtrack?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:31 PM PDT

My favourite is definetly JFA, the music from that game sounds really unique, in a good way. It sounds very exciting and frantic. The music from the original is amazing aswell, and it definetly is the most nostalgic, but I feel like some of the main songs are a bit too simple, and I don't like them nearly as much as JFA. I'm not gonna lie, I don't really like most of the main themes from T&T. Imo they feel out of place in the courtroom.

I'm curious about which soundtrack you guys like the best.

Is this inconsistency ever explained? [2-2/4-4 spoilers]

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 03:46 PM PDT

In 2-2, Franziska presents illegal evidence (the photo of Phoenix and channeled-Mia), openly acknowledges that its illegal, and says she did it because she knew it'd influence the judge. And the judge DGAF about it.

In 4-4, Phoenix gets disbarred for unknowingly presenting forged evidence.

Is there any explanation for this, either as a plausible headcanon or in-universe, besides Phoenix is an unlucky bastard?

Detective Gumshoe discussion, for the modern era

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:16 AM PDT

So, like with Maya in the days leading up to AA5 and AA6, it's obvious that a lot of Ace Attorney fans would love to see Detective Gumshoe again. The last time we saw the big guy release-wise was in Investigations 2, which came out in 2011. That game's fan translation was finished in 2014. Timeline-wise, on the other hand, Gumshoe's last appearance was in the Gramarye trial in 4-4. So, either way, it's been a long while. That said, he's only ever been absent from four games in the series (five if we count the Layton crossover), so there are still more games with him than without, and he was prominent in the anime, too.

Now, I'll admit that I'm not nearly as big a fan of Gumshoe as a lot of other people here. I think he's great, and a very memorable character, but I don't have that love for him or strong desire to see him again that so many other people in this community seem to. I don't think he was ever a particularly deep or developed character, which was fine given his secondary supporting role in the older games, and so I've never felt any pressing need to see him again, post-timeskip. Sure, it'd be nice to catch up with him and see how he's doing (has he married Maggey yet? Do they have any kids?), but it's never felt important to me. We have a much more developed character in Ema Skye filling the primary detective role now, and Gumshoe's main working relationship was always with Edgeworth, who has only ever taken on a secondary role himself in the 3DS era.

So, lemme ask - can you think of any ways to reintroduce Gumshoe to the main series without doing either of the following:

    • Making him too prominent and overriding the presence of characters like Ema just for the purposes of nostalgia

    or:

    • Making him a fairly pointless cameo with little to no impact, like Pearl in Dual Destinies and especially Spirit of Justice

Open to hearing any thoughts on this.

Stuck at Final Day of Rise from the Ashes (game doesn't save and progress?)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 03:12 PM PDT

Hi, I just finished Rise from the Ashes, but in the game it doesn't show as finished (it's Ace Attorney trilogy game), the save point is on the trial (my last save), so I tried saving it at the last dialogue.

Now it's just saved on the last dialogue, I play it, the credits end and nothing, back to the same save point, I can't progress. I don't understand. Is the game finished? I only played 5 episodes, aren't there like 14? Is the game broken? What am I supposed to do? If you want, I can post a video of it, to show it better. I have tried 3 times finishing Rise of Ashes, but every time, the credits end, everything ends, but there's no new episode and I'm stuck on the last save point.

This series is in a desperate need of a reboot

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 02:43 AM PDT

I say this because all of the main characters have already finished their story and arcs and a lot of them just feel empty and static, especially Phoenix and trucy in the last two games

And every other character either comes back and doesn't go through anything meaningful (maya, athena, pearl, edgeworth, etc.) Or gets a new backstory every game (apollo) the plot and character development in the new games always relies on the new characters which are then thrown out for new ones next game with maybe a minor cameo for the old ones

The series needs a reboot with a brand new cast and plot to keep things interesting in my opinion
