Just finished Episode 3 of Ace Attorney, "Turnabout Samurai."

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 10:54 PM PDT

I'm still on Game 1 of the Trilogy so please no spoilers past this Episode. I overall liked a lot. The characters lean a lot more into "anime" territory and the Episode is probably the least mature so far, not that I'm expecting the Episodes to be dead serious but I was told there would be a mix between serious and silly, but I'm OK with how the game has turned out thus far. My favorite thing about this case is probably the character development for Edgeworth. His decision to help Phoenix out at the end made the character grow in my eyes, and I'm excited to see that the next case will probably be focused on him a lot, judging by the opening scene. All in all, the game continues to be pretty solid IMO. I'm glad I got this Trilogy for the Switch for $15.

    PS:

I've found most of the anime episodes, of Season 1 at least, on YouTube, but when I started watching EP1 I realized that it's an adaptation of the games with stuff added in.. should I wait until I'm done with the game to watch it or can I watch an EP after completing the case that corresponds to that episode?

Creating an Ace Attorney inspired game - worth it?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 09:34 AM PDT

Hello all! I don't use Reddit a lot and English is not my first language, so forgive any mistakes etc!

Long story short, I'm an Indie Developer who wants to break into Indie Developer in an area that is actually relevant and of interest to me. I played the entire PW Trilogy and AJ when I was just a boy and the game series, to this day, is still one of my favourites. From the characters, music, the cases, the gameplay, everything is something I admire and love. Can I find fault with it? Absolutely, as I'm sure quite a few of us can find little bits here and there we didn't like.

After doing some research, I see there are a lot of "fan games" and Ace Attorney inspired games - not many, granted, but a few, and they don't seem to be super popular or perform exceedingly well. Not to say that they should because logically a solo-creator / small team will obviously have a difficult time creating a game copy-paste of AA, which is to say, they shouldn't be clones anyway. But as a solo developer naturally the notion is intimidating to think that actually no one wants an "inspired" AA game, but rather just the next actual instalment from Capcom.

I've been slowly creating the game now for 3 weeks, programming and story writing a basic demo, but after seeing some of the lackluster responses to some fangames / AA inspired games, I'm sort of losing my motivation. My question (sorry, finally getting to it), is:

    • Would you play an Ace Attorney inspired Visual Novel?
    • Is there still a market and/or presence for this kind of video game or is it slowly drifting out?
    • If you do think it would succeed, why?
    • And finally, what are the key points of AA that make it so successful? Can they be identified and learned? (Or is the key to the AA success much more complex than that?)

TL:DR - Wanting to make an AA inspired game, would you say it's worth it? Thank you!

MATERIAL CROWN had an Ace Attorney-themed jewelry collection a while back, but it was Japan-exclusive. Since then, I've been waiting for someone to resell the Miles&Edgeworth rings, but I still haven't found them. Anyone here know anything?

What Was Your ?!?!?! Moment In Ace Attorney

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 11:55 AM PDT

This isn't based on "woah that was awesome," but rather incidents of serious AA logic that cause the reaction of "how does that make sense?" "WHY IS THAT RIGHT?" "What the heck am I supposed to be doing?"

Any moment you found logically insane, frustrating, or just nonsensical, put it here.

Case in point: My friend redid the last case of AA 1 12. Times. Hope Von Karma's breakdown was worth it.

I started a playthrough of PW: AA in French. I don't speak French

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 03:54 PM PDT

I don't know why but it seemed fun to see how far I'd get before getting stuck. So far it's pretty fun and a mix of remembering the solutions and deducing the meaning of some words. Has anyone else done a playthrough in a language they don't speak? If so, what was it like?

Retinz. The answer is Retinz... well, one answer. But there are lots more. Von Karma, for instance.
