    Literary references in AA:AJ

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 01:44 PM PDT

No one probably cares about this but I noticed a lot of literary references in AA:AJ so I figured I'd compile them! Sorted by characters bc why not

    Phoenix

    • "Oh what tangled webs we weave, when we practice to deceive." (4-1) - this is a direct quote of the most famous line from Marmion, a 19th-century epic poem by Sir Walter Scott
    • "Therein lies the trick." (4-4) - Hamlet, Shakespeare. The actual line is "Therein lies the rub". Klavier quotes this verbatim earlier in 4-4 as well.
    • "Such sweet sorrows." (4-4) - Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare ("Parting is such sweet sorrow...")

    Klavier

    • "Therein lies the rub." (4-4) - Hamlet

    Trucy

    • "All's well that ends well, (I guess...)" (4-2) - All's Well That Ends Well, Shakespeare

    Apollo

    • "My badge for a normal witness" (4-2) - Richard III, Shakespeare. Not a direct quote but the meter is very similar to the famous line "A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!"
    • "Curiouser and curiouser" (4-3) - Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll

I think I missed one or two, did anyone else catch some?

What is with the pop culture references in T&T

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:26 PM PDT

There have been a few here and there in the series up to the 3rd game, but they really seem to ramp up in this one. From scooby doo to 3 different Top Gun references, and even 300, there are just so many!

    Where does Phoenix Wright live?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 05:56 PM PDT

I feel like the common consensus is that this takes place in California with Japanese elements to it, but I'm not so sure anymore. I don't remember exactly, but in AA there was a backdrop in the Steel Samurai case you could examine, and it had the generic Mount Fuji with the castle. Phoenix says something like "This doesnt make sense, you can't see Mount Fuji from here," and since the city in the Steel Samurai was Neo Olde Tokyo, that implies they were in Japan.

Does anyone know the definitive answer?

As a hypothetical scenario, if Capcom decides to make a reimagining of the series (like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories), what changes would you like to see explored?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 10:09 PM PDT

    For me:

    1) An alternate Maya Fey whose background is that of a paralegal / legal assistant / law school student. I think it'd be interesting to have a version of Maya who still has her bubbly attitude but is now a more believable legal assistant.

    2) This wouldn't be for every case but I'd like to see the reimagining of past cases but the killers are different. Like maybe instead of Luke Atmey being the killer, it's Desiree DeLite .

    3) Instead of ending on the Iris plot twist, we know from the start that Iris and Dahlia are twins. . That way, we can get more character backstory as we're already aware of the connection.

    4) A version of Matt Engarde where he's the mastermind behind the events of Justice for All, not just the final episode. Maybe he has a shared history with Franziska von Karma or something.

Edgeworth with big teddy bear: does art for this exist somewhere?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 04:53 PM PDT

In the JFA the Nickel Samurai case, they find the hidden camera/transmitter in the giant bear, and Edgeworth says he'll take it and find out where it was purchased. The way it transfers to and appears in the case file strongly implies that he took the actual bear.

Since the first time I played this, I have desperately wanted a visual of Edgeworth carrying a giant teddy bear out of the building and trying to stuff it in his car. I was hoping it might make an appearance in the anime (I mean, Maya walks around with the metal detector strapped to her back for like 2 days for no reason other than to establish that it's there :-), but no dice.

Has anyone seen fanart of this out there?

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Cases 1-3

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:00 PM PDT

Ok, I have some questions about the first 3 cases

I haven't finished Case 3 yet, so please no spoilers, please!

Ok so I started the case at 2:30 PM. I aim to finish Samurai Turnabout tonight, so I guess my question, in total how many hours should I put aside for this game?

What I like about Ace Attorney is that each case is different, so I can play a case, then put the game aside for some time then come back for another case. That said, I've read that the cases are somehow connected in the end..

Is this sub a better alternative to ask about cases than using Google or Wiki? I have a good memory, but in a few days I'll be really busy so I'll leave Cases 4 and forward for later this month.

From taking a glance on YT, each case is longer than the last, for example Case 1: 30 min Case 2 2 hour 30 min

Case 3 from I can see is about 3-4 hours. I think I can finish it tonight, but maybe not, because on Case 2, I got stuck with the Redd White and his cross examination. But I feel I have more experience how to use critical thinking and use evidence and stuff like that.

But let's say that I don't finish the samurai case tonight and can't play it for say one or two or three weeks, besides having multiple saves at crucial parts of the case, what would be the best way to get caught up?

I'm thinking YouTube is safe enough if I don't look at the comments; I can fast-forward until the part where I left off.

Another way is to use this subreddit. I could come here and ask questions about the case no?

Anyway imma go back to playing because so far I can tell that it's going to be another wild case

One more question: are all cases this way? For me case 2 was kinda mature, but case 3 seems like it's gonna be a little more on the cartoony side.

I don't mind either way but if you ask me I prefer mature cases so is there going to be a good combination going forward or what? I feel like Case 2 was stuck between mature and anime-like.

What are some settings/themes you'd like to see in the next AA game's cases?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 04:23 PM PDT

Pro Wrestling screw job (5-2 sucked and didn't focus enough on the potential of a pro wrestling setting)

    Baseball stadium

    Martial Arts tournament

    Sumo Rivalry

    Casino

    Newsroom

    Beauty pageant

Also, why not release AAI3 and AA7 at the same time and make them companion games that tell two parts of a whole story?

Make it so that each can stand as a complete gameplay experience on its own, but make it so that you get the full picture by playing both.

What would your fantasy next AA game be?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:02 AM PDT

In a fantasy world where you could choose what Capcom makes next in the Ace Attorney series, what would you like? 🤔

A follow-up to Spirit of Justice? Ace Attorney Investigations 3? Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton 2?

Personally, I'm hoping for a Switch follow-up to Spirit of Justice, but with proper world exploration this time, akin to the gameplay in Ace Attorney Investigations but in 3D.

Alternatively, a prequel game where you play exclusively as Mia Fey. 😍

    Theories for the next game?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:30 AM PDT

Personally I'm hoping they do another apollo justice game, based off || the end of SOJ || I'm betting there's either gonna be alot of Apollo storyline or slim to none for like half the game at least. However the general consensus here seems to be that the AJ game was not well liked. A new game could come as early as 2021 though, because it's the 20th anniversary of the original. What do you think?

Has Capcom given up on Ace Attorney?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:47 PM PDT

I don't see how or why they would do an AA7 or an AAI3. Ace Attorney is a very dated franchise marked with an extremely flawed legal system. And given the ending of Turnabout Revolution from Spirit of Justice, I'm gonna think a follow-up would be too difficult for Capcom to manage. So far, we had easily the most unspeakably heinous villains from the last cases of Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. Capcom might not have the power to create a follow up or even an Investigations 3 since Investigations 2 was so great, a duology for Edgeworth would be better.

Unless I try to look at it from a different perspective, Capcom might just decide to either retcon or just pull off a "Canon-discontinuity" on games that lack their fundamentally.

Otherwise, four years have passed since the last Ace Attorney game came. Apollo Justice was supposed to be new, but Phoenix had to be slapped in their for Yamazaki's own amusement.

What do you think is the cause of all this?
