    How does he do it?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:49 PM PST

We all know Sirhan Dogen is blind. He likes to play correspondence chess with Knightley, and he clearly had gotten pretty far into the game. I can believe a skilled assassin like him could write and draw his moves...

    However...

How does he read and set up Knightley's move? The memo doesn't have any braile on it. Does he have a guard read the move to him? Then how did no one realize Knightley was his chess partner when he was in the Holding Cell?

I only just beat the second case, so if it actually somehow is a spoiler in another case, then don't tell me.

    Anything about Spirit Of Justice

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 04:00 PM PST

Either at some point today or tomorrow (UK Time), I'm going to be getting Ace Attorney: Spirit Of Justice, is there anything about game that I should know in advance? (One of the few things I've heard about the story (Somehow) is that the final case is apparently longer then Rise From The Ashes.)

    Is the franchise dead?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 03:46 PM PST

It's been years since the last release and we haven't even had an announcement.

Nothing regarding ports of Investigations 2 (one of the best ones in the series) nor the prequels.

I bought a switch years back because there were rumors that the next game was in development and it would be a switch exclusive. Furthermore, that game would be announced at TGS. This rumor only got me more hyped when the "important announcement" was.. Well, announced. But as we know, that was just the games being ported again.

With capcom seemingly focusing on other things, mainly the resident evil franchise and the like.. Is this franchise being forgotten? Or is there hope to see something new in the near future?

    What do you guys think?

    Fourth Case Closed

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 01:34 AM PST

Just finished The Turnabout Goodbyes and, well I see why people said I would like Edgeworth more, honestly this case may have been my favorite yet. I would have never expected that I would be defending Edgeworth from his Mentor, nor did I expect said mentor to have a deep "OBJECTION!" There were so many times were I feel like I should have lost a ! But I didn't somehow. What I love about this game is how once you start to notice something, everything else clicks on place... usually, unless Karma just yells "OBJECTION!!" In that deep voice of his. Over all, loved this case, and this game, I get the rush every time I hear that music start to play, this game is just good and I want to know which game is next in the series. It is currently 1:34 AM on a school night, but did not what to stop.

Why Barok van Zieks deserves to be at the helm of the next Investigations game, from a historical, thematic, conventional and character perspective.

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 10:18 AM PST

This is a long post with spoilers from the most obscure game in the AA series, will probably be buried but at least I had fun writing this.

Recently, I played the wonderful English translation of DGS and I wish the best of luck to Scarlet Study on completing the translation of DGS2 in a smooth and timely fashion. Unfortunately, my adoration for this fresh 'new' spinoff series got the better of me so I ended up spoiling myself of the entirety of DGS2's story. It wasn't ideal at all, but here we are.

Needless to say, I am head over Barok's heels (sigh) in love with this universe and it's gotten me back into loving Ace Attorney again after being on and off with it for 15 years. I've always been a fan of the alternate history genre and I've had my own fair share of Assassin's Creed headcanons back when the lore was still somehow enticing. Being the history nut that I am, I started studying the history around the DGS timeline right away.

Additionally, AAI2 is my favourite Ace Attorney game and like many of us, I dream of a sequel or at least a game with a prosecutor protagonist again. Unfortunately, barring Edgeworth, none of the main series prosecutors intrigues me to the point that I want to see them star in their own game. So if I were to choose someone from that lineup, it would be Edgeworth again. I know his arc is pretty much complete but like Phoenix, he should perhaps be given an opportunity to travel to a new country but unlike Khura'in, this country is like a futuristic Silicon Valley and has androids and stuff, making it the antithesis of Spirit of Justice, thematically speaking. If the new Deus Ex games have taught us anything, it's that pseudo-Victorian wardrobes and sci-fi go very well together.

Cue Barok van Zieks, the main prosecutor of the other spinoff series. When I played DGS, it became immediately apparent that Barok is very similar to Edgeworth in more ways than one. It could be argued that his arc is the inverted version of Edgeworth's in that he used to be a young hopeful who wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps but fell victim of a corrupt justice system. Edgeworth, on the other hand, was corrupted by the system from the get go but thanks to Phoenix became someone who believed in finding the truth. This makes Barok's past all the more fascinating and even after DGS2, there are still some questions about him that I would like to be answered. The most important being: What was the moment he decided to take a 5-year leave from prosecuting? Where did he go when Kazuma regained his memories and reunited with Naruhodou and Susato? (The latter is probably meaningless but I like to think there was a personal reason for it)

Questions like these are what drives me to think that Barok should be the next protagonist of the Investigations series. Unfortunately, that would make it the first game in the series to have a double chance of NOT getting localised. Or would it? A game set entirely in Victorian England with some British humour sprinkled in and no chance of copyright infringement… we've got to think positively. After all, I am still hopeful that DGS and DGS2 will be localised when the Sherlock Holmes copyright debacle is over.

Anyways, if it's not apparent already, I'd want a prequel exploring Barok's past. Some of it exploring the times when he was a hopeful prosecutor assistant and the rest exploring the change he underwent when he became the Grim Reaper of the Old Bailey. Not only did DGS2 give us characters who we want to actually see but from a historical perspective, the late 19th century was a really interesting period, with a plethora of interesting real-life characters including the most famous serial killer in history…. more on that in the historical bit.

If you've come this far in my wall of text, thank you and I hope you stick around because now I'm actually going to state in details why a game like this would make sense. To make it an easy read, I will split it into four categories, historical, thematic, conventional, character. Anyways, without further ado: My pitch for Ace Attorney Investigations 3: Barok Boogaloo.

Historical reasons why Barok should have his own game:

    - In 1888 and (possibly) 1891, a serial killer ran rampant in Whitechapel, killing 5 to 11 women. He would be later known as Jack the Ripper. It is established that Barok became a prosecutor in between those two years (1890) Considering he only goes after the most notorious criminals, who knows… maybe he did catch him/her in 1891? I know this has the risk to retcon the wax museum in DGS2-3 but I think it would be a very interesting case to explore. It was one of the most grisly chapters in British forensic and criminal history and strangely enough it is closely followed up by the leap they made with the Professor case. It would be interesting to compare the contrast between those two years. Ideally, it would expand upon Hart Vortex's character. Perhaps this is how Barok and Vortex first started working together, by investigating the murders in 1888?

    - The 19th century is when superstitious beliefs and scientific curiosities meet. Some of the major past time activities in the Victorian era was studying occultism and spiritualism. Entire clubs and secret societies were created to study the science of alchemy, séance and paranormal entities. Some of these clubs had very famous members who had a huge influence on Western culture, some of which I will mention in the next point. So it was a really serious business. The Ace Attorney already has spirit channeling, imagine if there were other paranormal practices looming around the corner?

    - Now onto the real-life characters who lived during that time who I could envision in a game:

… Oscar Wilde. He is like the Western version of Souseki. He could give Barok a run for his money in terms of overdressing. He also hates nobles. It's time Barok got some hate as well

.… Bram Stoker. Perhaps not a very interesting character on his own, but his resume is very much relevant. He is the author of Dracula and responsible for creating the modern version of the vampire. When was it published? 1897. Barok was already the Grim Reaper of the Old Bailey by then. So no, Barok was not inspired by vampires, Stoker was inspired by Barok! Wouldn't that be amazing? Also a real-life friend of Wilde and a member of a magical society alongside the next person.

… Arthur Conan Doyle. Hear me out. It could either be a version that never ended up writing Sherlock Holmes or there could be some contrived reason for not having his name on the books in DGS. Nevertheless, he was a fascinating character and was in many ways the complete opposite of the fictional detective. For one, he was a staunch believer in spiritualism and was deeply fascinated by spirit channelling. He is also said to have been one of the investigators in the Jack the Ripper murders and it is even claimed that he knew who the murderer was but was hesitant to reveal that information. What if he invited some spirit mediums from Khura'in to help with the investigation? But yeah, a spiritualist detective would be cool. Also, he regularly dined with Wilde and was a member of a magical society alongside Stoker.

... Joseph Bell. Who, you ask? He was the literary inspiration for Sherlock Holmes and also helped develop the field of forensic science. He's also said to have investigated the Jack the Ripper murders alongside Doyle. This would be the best way to include Sherlock Holmes without actually including him! Imagine an old man with the same manners as Sherlock. Maybe he was Sherlock's mentor?

    - Other potential real-life characters could include Constance Lloyd, Lord Alfred Douglas, Sigmund Freud and Florence Nightingale. Plus all the 300 Jack the Ripper suspects.

Thematic reasons why Barok should have his own game:

    - I cannot stress this enough: Barok would benefit the most from the Investigations format. He has "Castlevania" written all over him so what's stopping him from exploring haunted mansions of corrupt nobles with secret traps and underground passages? It wouldn't have to be in England per se, he could even travel to castles all over Europe.

    - Potential for really creative and unusual murders. I already mentioned spiritualism and as long as it has some logic to it like spirit channelling, I'd welcome a murder committed in a paranormal fashion. However, the Victorian era was known for toxic household items. Green wallpaper contained arsenic. Corsets could suffocate women. Cosmetics had to be made at home and were very toxic. The potential for crazy yet wacky Ace Attorney-style murders is limitless.

    - Post-mortem photography. Look it up in case you don't know. Imagine if someone actually tried to throw off the time of death by taking a photo of themselves next to the deceased person as if they still appeared to be alive.

    - Screw Dual Destinies, this is the true dark age of the law. Ace Attorney has been around for 20 years and I think this could be a good place to slap on an M rating and actually embrace it. Fairytales back then didn't necessarily have happy endings then and were quite gruesome as a matter of fact. I'd like a game with a twisted ending for once.

Conventional reasons why Barok should have his own game:

    - If a AA game were to be set entirely in Victorian England, I think there's a good excuse to break a couple of previously established AA conventions because at least to me, they're getting very tiring. Like I can't ever see Barok being accompanied by a cutesy assistant girl. In case there has be an assistant of the female gender, it would have to be a mature-ish woman a la Victorian Franziska. Maybe a ghost huntress? Someone who has a skill for finding murder victims out of plain view?

    - This will be very controversial, but this would be an opportune moment to include a love interest of sorts. I'm not one to actively ship but romance is a typical Western trope and as long as it doesn't take the spotlight, I think it can be done right (See Iris/Phoenix and Diego/Mia). In fact, romance and relationships in the Victorian upper classes were truly something bewildering and could even be a source of amusement. Oscar Wilde's book 'The Importance of Being Earnest' is a prime example of how ridiculous relationship conventions were.

    - I think it's time they do some satire. The Brits are the masters of wit. I would like crude humour and idioms. I just got off AI:The Somnium Files and loved how self-aware it was. I would love it if Ace Attorney would satirise itself.

Character reasons why Barok should have his own game:

    - Re: Paranormal investigations, if you think about it, Barok is already superstitious or inclined to believe in the impossible. After all, his main argument for Dobinbough's guilt in DGS2-3 was that the teleportation device actually worked. Plus, he silently accepted his Death Bringer curse without giving it much thought up until DGS2-4.

    - Genshin and Klimt. I want to see these two in person so bad. It is very apparent how important they were to Barok growing up. Klimt's descent into madness would be interesting to observe. Genshin, on the other hand, could be Barok's partner in crime during the time he was assistant prosecutor, breaking into mansions and finding the criminals.

    - We need to see Barok as a child. In the DGS2 artbook, there is concept art for child Barok and he is the cutest little thing ever. As far as I can tell, the Japanese community is obsessed with this version of him and there is a handful of fluffy fanart out there.

    - And lastly, a complete 360 from the last point. Let's not sugarcoat the fact that Barok became a racist post-Professor. And to be frank, I was not a fan of how they handled it at the end since all he did was offer a mere apology for his actions. Barok has a habit of apologising and reverting back to his old habits so an apology didn't feel quite effective. But this is post-DGS2 and I am talking about a prequel. I want to witness this change to his racist personality to better understand how much suffering he had to endure during the Professor case. Maybe it wasn't just the Japanese in the Far East that he grew resentful towards, maybe he came in contact with the corrupt people of Khura'in in some form? (as previously mentioned, Doyle was a staunch believer of this practice)

That's it. TL;DR Barok deserves his own prequel in the form of an Investigations game to channel his inner Castlevania character and explore haunted mansions in the UK and Europe with his katana-wielding best pal Genshin. Jack the Ripper happened around the time he became a prosecutor. Oscar Wilde is a character just waiting to be in the Ace Attorney universe. Dracula was written when Barok was the Grim Reaper of the Old Bailey. Paranormal investigations and potential spirit medium involvement. Western clichés and humour. Screw Dual Destinies, this is the true dark age of the law. Child Barok. Child Barok. Child Barok. Child Barok. Child Barok.

Anyways, I'm done with my rambling. I hope you could make some sense of it. If not, here's a cute picture of child Barok. You're welcome.

I’m trying to find an ace attorney parody video.

It's really short and basically just goes with Phoenix going "Take that!" And the judge just goes "no" and Phoenix says "fuck"

I remember exactly how it goes but it bugs me more that I can't find it.

What do you think a day off for the AA characters are like?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 04:45 AM PST

A bit of a casual question but I think it would be fun to know what do you think the Ace Attorney characters do in their free time? As usual, here's a couple of mine:

•Phoenix, even though he has a day off, probably spends the day cleaning the office and cleaning the toilets but sometimes he hangs out with Maya, Pearl, or Trucy and just relaxes. He would also visit the Prosecutors office just to see how the others are doing or get dragged into the chaos whenever Larry invites him to things

•Edgeworth would use a free day to try and sit and read or play one man chess (or watch the Steel Samurai lol), but he wouldn't be able to because Kay and Gumshoe are constantly wanting to hang out with him. At first he was annoyed by their constant presence, but now he enjoys their company and treats them like a little family

•If Apollo isn't constantly being used in Trucy's magic tricks, he spends his day reading manga or hanging out with either Athena, Klavier, or Ema

    And finally

•Athena would spend her day off with a work out regime and trying to bring Apollo along with her. After that she would hang out with Apollo and maybe visit some other friends like Juniper or Blackquill

It's a bit of a basic question with some basic answers from me, but I'd like to see what y'all come up with!

Why do people complain about L'Belle's motive when Atmey's motive was so much worse (t+t 3-2 spoilers)

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 11:04 AM PST

His motive was literally just that he didn't want Kane Bullard to tell the world he's a blackmailer but there wasn't any evidence to support the fact the Armey is a blackmailer and how do we know people would even believe Bullard

Your Attorney/Prosecutor Matchup you wish had happened?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:56 AM PST

So I'm almost about to finish Trials and Tribulation (Just started 3-5 which I'm almost certain is going to be great and all) but I just wished there was some more dynamic between Edgeworth and Von Karma. I figured it would be a nice tribute for both the "heir" (I guess) of the both families to have a go at each other.

Maybe Miles becomes a Defense Attorney for some weird reason (maybe they actually gone through with switching careers?) and has to defend against Franziska (It's kinda a shame she didn't appear at all)

    What are your imaginary match-ups?

DGS speckled band possible plot hole?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:36 PM PST

So I don't know if it actually is a plot hole, but in the end of the Unbreakable speckled band case SPOILER Naruhodou says Nikomina and the crew tampered with the chicken putting sleeping pills in it so all the passengers aboard would fall asleep, that way they could have pushed the alarm without anyone noticing and could have locked the door of Naruhodou's cabin where his friend was lying dead on the floor, thus framing Naruhodou of nikomina's murder. they even confessed to have tampered with the food, but the problem is the murder wasn't premeditated, it was an "incident", nikomina's kitty went to Naruhodou's cabin and nikomina had to go take it back, but it was completely random. So why the hell did they tamper with the food? They couldn't have known they would have had to push the alarm to lock somebody's door, let alone kill somebody. So why did they do it? this was, in my opinion, a bad case in the first place, but this "plot hole" ruins it even more. what do you think about it? am I missing something? I definitely hope so
