    Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney ideas!

    Posted: 18 Mar 2022 07:15 AM PDT

Let's face it, our girl Athena needs her own game. Dual Destinies could have been that game, but it got too busy with trying to fit Phoenix AND Apollo into it as well. This is a game that, preferably, is ALL Athena Cykes. Phoenix and Apollo should be sidebar at best. Of course, because of Dual Destinies, it could be hard to see what an Athena Cykes game would still have to offer. This is where I'm going to put down my ideas for a potential totally Athena Cykes focused game. Feel free to comment on/add to any ideas I've put in here already.

First of all, no totally new game mechanics really necessary. The only non-mainline mechanic I feel like we need to add is multiple witness cross-examination. Jury could be implemented, but I don't know if it would make much sense in a modern Ace Attorney game. HOWEVER, I am going to be adding to/putting twists on the Mood Matrix, or trying to use it in ways we haven't before.

    GROUP THERAPY

In plenty of cases, the witnesses all have unaired grievances with each other, or an event that has happened that everyone is experiencing different emotions on, often with them thinking each other to not be reacting appropriately or being actually upset. This can lead to a near case-end group therapy session, where each person on the witness stand explains why they're upset or sad about somebody else's actions, and find contradictions in how they perceive each other versus how the other person actually feels. There is actually a very specific reason I have this in mind, which you'll see later.

The Phantom, Athena's first villain, had a fitting psychological quirk: Not having real emotions. This leads me to what I believe is the obvious theme of THIS game's main villain: Controlling emotions, or as I want to call it 'Fixing Emotions'. The ability to trigger specific emotional reactions in people incredibly easily. I have a cool idea for how this would interact with the Mood Matrix, too:

    NEGATIVE DISCORD

To the people 'fixed', everything makes perfect sense. They have LESS THAN zero noise in their hearts, because all of their previous emotions and discord were wiped away to make a perfectly tailored emotional experience. However, this is also not genuine, and not how they would actually react. By pointing out contradictions in what people feel and what they think, they begin to get agitated, and break the emotional control, finally being able to understand what they saw for what it is.

For instance, somebody might see a dead body, and not react at all, because they have been 'fixed' to consider it not really that big a deal, and ignore it. If you prove to them, in the court, that there was definitely a dead body, the contradiction and discord brings them back out of the negative and able to accurately remember and note all of the important things.

I'd find a game mechanic like this highly entertaining, and also has a lot of potential for plot twists that do feel natural. However, this would mean the same villain would have to be involved in a lot of these cases, which might be a problem, especially if the middle case's endings feels too unresolved. There might have to be another excuse, like them repressing their memories or something, to explain it away until closer to the end of the game.

    VILLAIN/MAIN PLOT:

We've had grand villains pulling the strings behind the legal system wayy too much now. This game's villain needs to be more personal. There is a lot of potential with Athena: We know nothing about Metis Cykes, When Athena studied legal systems in Europe and met Phoenix Wright, really any of her childhood pst UR-1 Incident, all of which new backstories and thus new villains could come from.

As I said earlier, the thing that makes this villain scary is their ability to control emotions: (This is heavily inspired by The Mule from Issac Asimov's Foundation series). While this control can be broken by logic, towards more subjective things it would be way harder to notice. This leads me to what I think should be the darkest hour of this game: A full Wright Anything Agency SCHISM.

In the Penultimate case of the game, Lamirior is involved, and Apollo Justice is back in the country. Eventually, very near the end of the trial, the truth is revealed that Lamirior is Apollo and Trucy's mother. The Villain takes this opportunity to heighten ALL of the negative emotions in the cast.

Apollo is ANGRY- He thought he'd lost ALL of his parents, and Wright was keeping one from him all this time? He storms off, upset. Trucy is really, really sad, but pretending to be relentlessly cheerful, a magician always has a smile on their face after all! Phoenix should be feeling relieved, but is instead just depressed, and Lamirior is very unsure of what to do, paralysed by fear of her making things worse. With all of these heightened emotions, Athena decides to distance herself from the WAA crew for a little bit, and let them sort out their own problems, it's far too much for her to handle.

(They'll have a Group Therapy session in the final case, this is my inspiration for 'Group Therapy' in the first place.)

And now, she has nobody to rely on when she's blasted with a case from her or her mother's past comes back to haunt her.

Now, following how this would work, we'd be dealing with a very similar situation to Dual Destinies whereDetective Fullbright was around the whole game, and secretly the bad guy, since there'd have to be a reasonable way for them to interact with the full cast and witnesses all the time. Them being the prosecutor could work, but it also might seem too easy to figure out the culprit once the curtain is drawn on where Negative Discord actually comes from.

    CONCLUSION:

So yeah! Those are my ideas for a potential Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney game. What do you guys think? Is it too little? Are there any additional ideas or concepts you'd like to see? Is there anything you think should be better off changed? I'd love to hear more ideas!

I say Dover: he abused Horace, make him tie his best friend (coward) and they almost die because of him.

What was the inspiration behind kurain channeling technique?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2022 07:00 AM PDT

    Hello!

I was wondering if kurain channeling technique was inspired by any real techniques that were used in Japan or globally?

Does anyone knows? Any help appreciated!

Question about something ryunosuke says at the end of case 5 in GAA 1

    Posted: 18 Mar 2022 04:16 AM PDT

This may be a weird question but for some reason I don't get the idea behind Being able to trust yourself first to trust others He tells Gina that trusting others is an exercise in trusting yourself and Asogi also says something similar in case 1 and how that idea applies to being a good lawyer

It seems to be a very important theme in the game and I dont quite get it. Anyone mind explaining it to me?

Is it weird that I like Darklaw more than any other prosecutor besides Edgeworth?

I like Franziska as well but I do think Darklaw edges out from her in my mind. Plus with the extras between her and the others is kinda endearing. Thoughts?

He's what now?? (GAA 1-2 spoilers)

    Posted: 17 Mar 2022 11:00 PM PDT

I finally started playing GAA and I had a blast with the first case, animations are so good, music is so good I love it.

But while I was just loving Kazuma so much the whole time (he is an immediate favorite for me), I said to myself more than a few times: "He's gonna die, isn't he?". I didn't want him to die, but he was too competent for his own good lol

Then the second case started and I already had a feeling of dread in my heart lmao

Capcom never lets cool and competent characters to live too long... This is the Mia situation all over again! Mia was my favorite too :( at least we had spirit channeling then

But now that I've played the second case a little bit (Susato is too cute, everyone is adorable in this game), I have a feeling he's not dead? We haven't seen the body, they don't know how he died... very suspicious... I feel like he faked his own death or something

Please don't spoil it for me though, but just wanted to share my current thoughts
