Theory Regarding Black Locks in TGAA (SPOILERS FOR TGAA2&AJ**)

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 11:50 PM PST

Thinking about TGAAC is something I find myself doing frequently, to no surprise. Recently, I've also been thinking about the different DA "powers" in the AA universe, and comparing them to/how they might've been used in TGAAC.

A moment of using a DA "power" that comes to mind is when the black locks appear over Kristoph after Phoenix asks him why he killed Shadi Smith (objectively one of the best moments of the whole series, js). Thinking of this moment/use of the magatama juxtaposed with TGAAC, one particular person's freak out kept nagging at my brain.

What I'm speaking of here is, of course, Daley Vigil's breakdown. With our knowledge that black locks represent deep repression of emotions, memories, motives, ETC… Would it not be too far fetched to assume that, if we had a magatama on us, Daley would have had MULTIPLE black locks as well?? If this is true, and they are there, but are invisible to us, was his breakdown/fainting the result of us "breaking" those locks?? Is this reasonable, or just a desperate AA fan's far fetched theory??

I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on this.

    Little Kazuma Portrait :))

I drew (well, sketched) every single character in the original trilogy! I only drew the ones who were shown on-screen so people like Polly Jenkins and Manuel aren't on here. Excuse the giant watermark, I'm planning on turning this into an art print once it's lined and colored :)

Looks like the cackling mastermind of Investigations 2 will be heading to the finals on Friday. Speaking of which, mainly to Lost_Rough, One of my deadlines for a project got shortened so I wasn't able to write much for my defense of Simon. Hope he survives this round so I can finish it today

Anyways, we have two people who have used others to their advantage and gain their ways - but who is the greater antagonist?

    Logic Chess in AAI:2

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 11:47 AM PST

One of my favorite things about the "Logic Chess" mechanic in AAI:2 is that it's all in Edgeworth's head. Unlike the "Little Thief" device which displays a virtual crime scene for all to see, the logic chess schema is only visible to him.

So to his interlocutor it just seems like a forceful conversation, but to Miles it is 4-D chess. There is something delightfully nerdy about that.

    (Spoilers for 3-5) What if...

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 02:52 PM PST

Godot's reason to blame Phoenix for Mia's death is a little different from what the fanbase thinks? The general consensus seems to be that Diego expected Trite to be like Rambo and save Fey before White bludgeons her, but what if Armando's reasoning was different?

Ok, for the facts first. We already know that Redd killed Mia because she was going to expose him in court, hence, he sought to silence Fey. We also know that Mia only became a lawyer to find out what happened with her mother regarding the whole DL-6 drama, and Diego probably knew all of those things, since not only did he date Fey for a certain amount of time (which means he probably knew that Mia was trying to pursue a very dangerous man), but also even Grossberg knew about it, which is clear during 1-2 (please remember that Godot worked under Marvin too).

Ok, now for my speculation. Godot hated Phoenix, since, according to the former, the latter failed to protect Mia, which doesn't make sense from a rational POV but Armando is grieving, so I can give a free pass on this issue. However, Diego is incredibly unclear about what he meant with protection, he simply said:

Godot: You were with her at the time. You and no one else. It was your responsibility! You should have protected her!

But what if by saying "at the time", he meant "by the time period Mia was killed", not in the span of minutes before she was murdered, but...I don't know how to explain this. What I want to say, what if Godot wanted to say "two years ago, you were her protegé, hence you were constantly with her, so it was your responsibility to protect her". You know what I mean? Under this light, what if Diego didn't actually want Feenie to be like the Rock and yeet White to oblivion? What if Armando actually wanted Phoenix to say:

"Mia, please stop pursuing this guy, this Redd White is clearly trouble"

Wouldn't things make more sense? I mean, I'm trying to rationalize the mind of a very broken person, but I really can't debunk the scenario I just proposed, so...food for thought, I guess. What if my theory is actually correct? I'm going for a scavenger hunt to look for more quotes, but until now, my scenario doesn't seem to be unlikely, so what do you think, guys?

If Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice received the Trilogy and Chronicles treatment would AJ be remade in 3D or kept 2D?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 10:52 AM PST

I had this thought in my head for a while now because Apollo Justice is a 2D game like the Trilogy, but Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice are 3D. So if let's say these 3 mainline games received the Trilogy and Chronicles treatment would Apollo Justice be completely remade in 3D or kept consistent with the original and remain 2D while the others stay their 3D self. What do you think would realistically happen in this case?

    Investigations or Chronicles?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 04:13 PM PST

Past week I finished SOJ, which I have to say it was somewhat an underwhelming game compared to the others in the mainline, and I got investigations 1 prepared for this next weekend, but I'm wondering if playing chronicles is a better option.

My issue with chronicles is that every day it passes I feel I'm missing out since everybody in this subreddit seems to love that duology.

Which is the best duology to dive into after having finished the whole mainline?

    Rant about tone/idea for reboot.

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 03:42 PM PST

It would honestly might not work in so many ways. But here's what I've been thinking about anyway. Now firstly, I love the wackiness of the ace attorney games, but.. in my opinion the best cases have always been the ones with grounded plots and characters. I think sometimes, especially in the newer games, it's become a contest of how contrived can we make this murder mystery, and beat last games weirdos with the next. Honestly, the contrast between MURDER and the ridiculousness of the case is super jarring.

But the first game, while not perfect, really nailed the mood and humour. Phoenix is serious but self aware and makes jokes like anyone else might. The more dreary atmosphere leta you feel more like a defence attorney who is in way over his head and makes the moments of victory all the more satisfying. A little wackiness is used to contrast phoenix and the realness of the case with the self obsessed characters or morbidly absurd events. The little bits of comedy in the investigations are more like the game helping you cope with the fact that it's a murder case, rather than making the case itself into the joke.

Anyway, so after reading something Shu Takumi said about the games in retrospect, I thought how it might be interesting to have a reboot which makes Redd White the villain of the first game, and Von Karma the villain of the second. Instead of winning your first case, Maya is sentenced due to White's power over the court. Make him the intimidating jackass he is for the first half of the game, and create more links between him and this larger issue with actors such as Karma, Gant etc and the whole system in itself.

After you lose, you promise Maya you won't give up, and while you search for another piece of evidence, following Mia's notes and journal etc, Grosberg gives you a job at his firm which is also connected to Bluecorp, in the hopes that you can make the connections he can't act on, and in the final act, bring White to justice with no miracles (Mia's help coming in the form of her own pursuit of justice and helpful wisdom) just your own ability and determination.

This would mean Edgeworth is a dick for the whole game, but more time to see his subtle changes in each meeting with him. Also, the middle case would likely have a different prosecutor, which could be someone we already know or someone new entirely. It would just give the game more time to flesh out it's story, and feel new add different to the originals.

I would think the second game would be something like flash back case + 1-3 + new case + 1-4, again taking more time to lead up to the ending.

Alas.. this will never happen, and maybe that's good thing. Reboots rarely work out well, and those extra cases could become padding if not handled well. Idk. Maybe a game about Mia and Diego with a more serious (but not edgy) to tone would be better. But yeah does anyone feel similarly about anything said?
