Round 22 of the Ace Attorney elimination contest. Tyrell Badd and Luke Atmey have been declared guilty. Just 8 characters remain, this time you'll have to vote just one to be eliminated next round.

If we ever get an official release, I hope they translate it as “Pursuit ~ Truthing Warmly”

Ema Skye vs. Kay Faraday (Investigations 1 & 2)

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 10:25 PM PST

This post contains spoilers from the Investigations series and up to AA4. Please turn away if you haven't played these games yet!

Does anyone else feel like Ema should have been the assistant instead of Kay? I feel like it makes a whole lot more sense, since Edgeworth and Ema are already acquainted with each other, with Ema having a profound admiration of Miles. Furthermore, Ema's intended profession (forensic scientist) is intrinsically involved with investigations, giving Ema an actual reason to accompany Edgeworth and aid him during his investigations. Edgeworth was also instrumental in helping the Skye sisters, so there is already that bond between Edgeworth and Ema.

While I like many aspects of Kay (I like the Little Thief gameplay mechanic and some aspects of her character), I always felt like her presence in the game was contrived and she felt out of place. Kay is a girl who happens to find a prosecutor who investigated a case she was involved with a long time ago and decides to tag along just for fun? I don't think Edgeworth's connection in I-4 with Kay is enough to justify this (they only really have the cravat moment), especially considering that Edgeworth DOESN'T even REMEMBER her. While I do believe that the connection between Gumshoe and Kay is a bit more present, I feel like the game pretends that there is a stronger bond between Miles and Kay when there really isn't. Kay also has almost no reason (as a thief) to actually tag along Miles' investigations; it's not really her field. This is kinda evident when you really realize that for how much Kay brags about being a thief, she's really not one at all.

Maya working as Phoenix's assistant feels much more natural. Firstly, the game understands that despite Maya being Phoenix's mentor's sister, there isn't a bond between them initially and doesn't pretend there is. When Mia dies, they both resolve to work together to continue the legacy of someone who was very important in their lives and over the course of their mission, we see how they form a deep friendship with each other.

Trucy being Apollo's assistant also feels much more natural, as the game understands the same concept of not pretending there is a bond before it actually develops. This time, Phoenix Wright is an instrumental part of the relationship between Apollo and Trucy, as Trucy decides to be Apollo's assistant to continue Phoenix's legacy after his own disbarment. From there on out, we see a bond between Apollo and Trucy form.

Both Maya and Trucy's presences feel justified in their respective games... and Kay's just kinda doesn't? This isn't meant to be a Kay hate post (I actually like Kay), but I can't help but feel that Ema would have worked better as an assistant as I do believe her presence in an Investigations game would have been more natural than Kay's.

Is it bad that i look online for clues in cases

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 07:53 PM PST

like im playing through the case entirely without no problem, then i hit a roadblock...so i look online for the 1 thing im blocked, normally this happens once per case or so then i manage to finish the case on my own, ive been debating to myself if this is a good thing to do or no...keep in mind im on my first AA games playthrough ever, it feels like cheating but also not cause i would have never figuered it out (i was stuck on turnabout big top)

Just a funny AU thought thing i had, imagine if kristoph gavin was the main character of the original trilogy instead of phoenix, like he was the one that went through all of those cases and met all those characters instead of phoenix
