    How Franziska Counters Arguments

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:56 AM PDT

In an effort to analyse how prosecutors act, I created a template of their possible behaviours, which can be found here. Afterwards, I attempted to apply it to a case, in order to analyse Franziska's behaviour. I have compiled my findings in a spreadsheet here. As such, the following post will be entirely based on the findings I compiled.

Before I begin the analysis, however, I should note that I have updated the template to better reflect how I have applied it in practical terms.

    How Franziska Counters Arguments

Note: All information on which this is based can be found in the spreadsheet.

Franziska's first outing goes through the entire spectrum of her abilities, more or less. All aspects from here on pertain to case 2-2: Reunion, and Turnabout.

She prepares her case, spotting weaknesses and attempting to keep them hidden during the trial as well as preparing a few arguments which will likely get brought up.

    • Franziska understands from the pistol and bullet hole that Dr. Turner Grey may have attacked Maya Fey. For this reason, she attempts to divert the topic of why the gun was there and of the bullet hole on the clothing.
    • Franziska counts on the fact that Phoenix was also a witness to remain assured that Phoenix cannot break Lotta's testimony.
    • Franziska realises Lotta's second photograph will only introduce more confusion to the proceedings, and attempts to keep it hidden.
    • Franziska is prepared to argue all matters of physical build using the Channelling as evidence, so she acquires a clandestine photo of Maya channelling so as to influence the judge.
    • When discussing the subject of motive, Franziska personally ensures it's made clear that there's no proof Dr. Grey did anything to Mimi, lest that be used as motive.

When caught off-guard, she becomes irritated and struggles to improvise.

    • Despite predicting the bullet hole is important, she has no prepared defence for the inconsistencies it brings up.
      • She initially asks the detective to come up with a working theory instead.
      • When pressed, she completely fails to improvise explanations for the lack of gunpowder burns or the angle of the shots.
      • She failed to realise the photograph lacked the bullet hole that should've been there.
    • She failed to realise Ini Miney should've seen blood on her sister.
    • Once Ini is shown to be lying, all Franziska can do is point out inconsistencies with the things she'd shown yesterday or other obvious aspects that weren't explained yet.

After things go wrong for her, she struggles to recover when she doesn't have any more evidence to bring up.

    • When she fails to establish Dr. Grey was purely a victim and Maya had to be the killer, she relies on simply moving on to her next witness, Lotta.
    • She had nothing prepared when Phoenix managed to show Maya must've left the room. She relies on Morgan to cover up the inconsistencies brought up the previous day.
    • When Ini is shown to be lying, she has no more evidence to cover up the inconsistencies.

Franziska is overly arrogant, and often gives Phoenix more chances when he fails so she can knock him down again. (Leading to the opposite happening.)

    • Phoenix cannot break Lotta's testimony of what occurred before the crime, but Mia helps him get another testimony of what occurred after they broke in.
    • Phoenix fails to provide an adequate motive under pressure, but Mia intervenes and Franziska allows another testimony to let Phoenix try (and fail, she expects) to get a motive.

Overall, her preferred styles of arguing are:

    • Pointing out inconsistencies or unexplained parts of the defence's theory.
    • Clearly dismissing information as unrelated where possible.
    • Trying and failing to come up with alternative explanations for flaws on her case.

By contrast, she does not employ:

    • She rarely asks for proof without nitpicking some flaw first.
    • She did not attempt to cover for witnesses. Instead, she tries to point out some flaw on the defence's part.
    • She did not lay any successful traps or turn any defence information into her own advantage.

These are the aspects which I feel most stand out in regard as to how Franziska usually acts. Do you feel there was some aspect which I should've focused more on or something I missed from my own information?

Do you guys think AA7 will be announced for the 20th Anniversary.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:14 PM PDT

So, with TGS past us, October 11 is basically the last possible date where Capcom could plausibly announce an AA7 in line with the 20th anniversary. Since that's just over a week away, I want to ask everyone if they think the game, and with it the anniversary as a whole, is actually happening.

Give your reasoning in the comments.

    1. "I like nothing more than standing around, staring into space."

    2. "Red bread, lead bread pan, dead bread man."

    3. (To Lord Van Zieks) "That's no way to greet the lawyer who's trying his hardest to prove your innocence, is it?"

    4. "That's not a blade; that's Kazuma's soul."

    5. "I knew you wouldn't die that easily, Kazuma."

    6. "Well, the gods are benevolent, obviously. I did say it was just a warning. 'Man must travel under his own steam, or next time birdcages will rain down on all of you.'"

    7. "One day...when our paths cross once more...we'll fight a duel. A duel of words, across the courtroom. A day I eagerly await...as a lawyer."

    8. "What to believe in: the defendant, justice or truth. How to believe, even. But...I think I've finally worked it out. I've decided I must believe in myself above else."

    9. (To Kazuma) "I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing it for the truth."

    Drumroll, please!

    1. "As a lawyer, I have the perfect poker face. You'll never be able to tell what I'm thinking."

I would love to see a viral meme where somebody says something that's a lie, and then psyche locks appear.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:30 AM PDT

Can't think of many good examples, but it could be like:

Jesus: "Judas, will you always stand by me?"

Judas: "Oh, Jesus. You know I would never betray you."

    3 psyche locks appear

Can you think of any fun examples?

Ever Wanted AA With Full Voice Acting? Try out Tangle Tower!

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:58 PM PDT

I finished playing a game called Tangle Tower, a short detective game that is pretty much the classic Investigation section of your Ace Attorney games. From roaming around locations examining for evidence, interrogating witnesses, presenting evidence and profiles, solving puzzles, and even a version of breaking Psyche Locks, this game hits very close to home for any AA fan.

The real selling point of this game, however, is that it is FULLY voice-acted. Literally every line of dialogue in the game is voiced, for every piece of evidence or profile you present, to every single pixel in the completely examinable environments, even the dialogue you get when you present the wrong evidence! For those people wondering what an Ace Attorney game would sound like fully voiced, this is a wonderful example buoyed by strong voice acting performances, vibrant character animation, and witty writing. Searching for all the optional dialogue bits probably tacked on 2 hours to my 8 hours total playtime. It really puts into perspective the monumental task of voicing a full game - the production value cost for dubbing in even just ONE language is insane (imagine the fact that dubbing AA requires both ENG and JP dubs for a much longer game, and Capcom set ridiculous standards for VA talent with its cast of A-list seiyuus for the TGAAC/DGS games).

There aren't many detective puzzler games out there where you can see this much effort poured into them - this game deserves more support. You can find it on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Apple Arcade - where it is also cheapest. Also the first 21 minutes that showcase the full VA.
