Posted: 20 Oct 2021 06:56 PM PDT Okay, while my current translation dissection (concerning DL-6) is taking a fair bit of time (lots of details I need to work through), I ended up deciding to, for the hell of it, checking the bit in 2-2 when Franziska first came up...and found this absolute gem. This is right after Gumshoe reveals that "von Karma's successor" is 13 years old, we get this little exchange:

This technically was addressed but if it was asked about much sooner it would have saved so much time. And the biggest thing, there was never any blood anywhere. Why did we waste so much time speculating about where he was killed when there was never any blood. There was no blood on the sword when she pulled it out, there was no blood in the coffin, there was no blood on the stage, and there was no blood below the stage. | What if Ema was Edgeworth's assistants in the Investigations Duology? Posted: 20 Oct 2021 02:49 PM PDT I forgot to put this on the title, but spoilers for AAI and light spoilers for AAI2 ahead. You have been warned, sorry for not putting this on the title. Just your basic "what-if scenario" post. Don't get me wrong, I really like Kay and she's easily charismatic to the point I had a nice time reading her interactions with Miles. However, I suddenly thought of something: why wasn't Ema Skye Edgeworth's assistant? I mean, think about it:
Again, and I will stress this one more time: I REALLY like Kay, I just wonder why Ema wasn't chosen as the assistant and was forced to an awkward cameo during the Kidnapped Turnabout. With that aside, the main question is: what if Ema Skye was the assistant? Well, honestly, AAI2 could still work really well considering that Kay doesn't have necessarily an arc compared to AAI. Even Kay's kidnapping in the Forgotten Turnabout could be changed with Ema's kidnapping, the mastermind still has their goals achieved. The only thing that might really change is not from a narrative perspective, but from a gameplay POV. After all, one of the mechanics of the Investigations games is "Little Thief", allowing us to recreate the crime scenes. That's the only thing that would really change if Kay didn't exist, so we either get rid of the recreation mechanic or we have Ema as the owner of her own gadget and we invent a lore-wise reason for her device, which might not be impossible since Skye's gimnick is SCIENCE. On the other hand...AAI's plot would change a lot. Whether or not the final villain was lame is up to you, guys, but you can't deny that Kay Faraday had emotional stakes here. The Yatagarasu is a really important plotline in AAI, but let's say Kay doesn't exist and we don't create a convoluted backstory to tie Ema to the Yatagarasu. Then, Reminiscence would still lose its emotional impact and we would have another huge problem: Ema's parents apparently died in a car crash according to RFTA iirc. Therefore, the victim would basically have no ties to our assistant, which is something that I'm willing to give a free pass to simply because I-4 exists for many reasons, such as making us emphatize with Kay and acknowledge her parallel with Miles: both lost their parents in a courtroom in a very young age. Even Edgeworth mentions this parallel. Furthermore, we could lose some stakes considering that there's no way to tie Ema to the Yatagarasu plot unless we resort to really convoluted storytelling, so...yeah. Anyway, I'm out of ideas and I already said way too many things. How about you, guys? What if Ema was the assistant instead of Kay? Oh, I will repeat for the people in the back: I REALLY like Kay Faraday, this is just a hypothetical scenario. That's all, and thanks for reading ;) [link] [comments] | ||

| The Tragically Unnecessary Feelings of Ms. Oldbag Posted: 20 Oct 2021 09:08 AM PDT On 'Unnecessary Feelings day' we talk about emotions inspired in Miles Edgeworth, but what about the "feelings" he inspires in others?? Ms. Wendy Oldbag is a perfect example. Her "frothing desire" knows no limits. (Mild spoilers for the first trilogy and Investigations 1 ahead) In AA1, she developed a crush on Edgeworth (which is entirely understandable). It's apparent during the trial that Edgeworth is uncomfortable with this attention given that he actually objects to his own witness. I really thought this gag would end after the Steel Samurai case, but I was very wrong.... During the "Rise From the Ashes" case we discover that Ms. Oldbag has such approbation for Edgeworth that she sends him gorgeous floral bouquets (this one here must have cost $200 if it cost a cent) and even gave him a fetching Steel Samurai statue on the foot of which is written: Ema mistakenly assumed that the "Wendy" in question must be Edgeworth's fiancee: I can only imagine the euphoria Oldbag would experience if this were true. In AA2, we learn that Wendy has taken on a new job as a security guard at the Gatewater hotel. You discover in conversation, though, that she had first attempted to become Edgeworth's body guard: But Edgeworth was having none of this: This was quite a painful moment for Oldbag. She says, with some anger: So at this point I thought "surely she has moved on from Edgeworth?"--not so. In AA: Investigations 1, Oldbag appears quite a bit (timeline wise this happens not long after AA3). Edgeworth first encounters her working as one of the Badger mascots. She re-affrims her love for him (despite admitting to other crushes) while Edgeworth re-affirms his fear. (still not over the stallion thing) Obviously Edgeworth's refusal to have her as a bodyguard has done nothing to diminsh her passion. They meet once again in the final case of AA I 1, this time Wendy playing the role of the Pink Princess from the Steel Samurai live show (not surpisingly, Edgeworth is a little shocked to discover this). Oldbag throws caution to the wind and makes her boldest declaration yet during this encounter: So there you have it--Edgeworth may struggle to accept and address his own feelings but he is quite capable of inspiring powerful ones in others. Too bad for Ms. Oldbag this was never meant to be 😔* *I have not actually lost my mind, but maybe a little [link] [comments] |
