If Ace Attorney Had Its Own "What If...?" Series, What Alternate Realities or Events Would You Like to See?

It could be missing or added sections to the story, characters or events being changed, potential bad endings replacing good endings or vice versa.

    Apollo's Symbolism and Experiences

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 07:18 PM PST

    >! I think one of the things I love most, that I've only realized recently, is that Apollo's lack of a jacket (Even at the end of SOJ) shows that instead of following one set path between Phoenix and Dhurke, he actually makes his own path instead. Even when he wore Clay's jacket, he only did so because he wanted to avenge him personally. Also, what Kristoph Gavin mentions right before the first cross examination in Turnabout Trump suggests that Apollo at least had a few co-counsel experiences with him prior to said case, meaning that he had more proper knowledge/training than Phoenix at the beginning of both their stories (Though Kristoph was sly, paranoid, and a hell of a lot smarter than Sahwit which is why Apollo's beginning case was longer. I think Apollo would've solved The First Turnabout as fast, if not a little faster than Phoenix). !<

    Why do people dislike DD?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 12:06 PM PST

I heard that one of the rules of this subreddit is that DD is the worst game (or one of the worst). I have seen fans list a few reasons why they dislike DD, but I don't really agree.

    1. Lack of continuity: One major complaint that fans have with DD is the lack of continuity with AJ. Many fans say that they pretend 4-4 never happened, due to the lack of juries and Phoenix returning as a lawyer. However, Shu Takumi never wanted juries in AJ. He was pressured by other developers at Capcom and the Japanese public due to the possibility of juries being reintroduced to Japanese courts in 2007. As for Phoenix's return, the developers hinted towards Phoenix's potential return in 4-4, thus they planned to bring back Phoenix upon beginning development of DD in 2011.
    2. "The Dark Age of the Law": Another complaint is the dark age of the law, the main focus of DD's plot. Many fans dislike how the game gives no physical evidence for the influx of forged evidence and false charges, unlike in previous games, where such corruption is shown on screen. Additionally, many fans wonder how the legal world during the dark age of the law is any different from before, with the updated autopsy reports, forged autopsy reports, forged notebook pages, etc, to which I counter with the fact that the games only provide a limited scope. In addition, the games mention how forged evidence is still illegal and looked down upon, suggesting that it was never mainstream until the dark age of the law. As for the lack of physical evidence, I don't really have much to counter that. The game does show Aura's hatred of the court system, but Aura is a misanthrope anyway.
    3. New characters: Many fans are a bit divided on the new characters, namely Athena. Blackquill and Fulbright receive a fair share of love, as does Athena, but Athena also receives a fair share of hate. I'm not sure what fans hate about Athena, perhaps her clumsiness, poor sense of direction (though that's not really shown until SOJ), or the fact that her backstory has many similarities to Edgeworth's backstory, due to DL-6 and UR-1 sharing a few similarities. But perhaps the most hated character from DD, not including side characters, is the Phantom, the main antagonist. Many fans say that the Phantom is a cop-out because you know the Phantom is the killer as soon as they are mentioned (I'm using they because the Phantom's gender is technically unknown, though the Phantom is usually referred to as a male), which is a fair point. However, a similar thing happens in 2-4 because as soon as de Killer is mentioned, you know that de Killer performed the hit; the problem becomes who hired de Killer to perform the hit. With the Phantom, the problem becomes who is the Phantom, which may lead to another problem fans have with them, as their identity remains unknown. I, however, see this as an interesting concept on Capcom's part, as not all mysteries can be solved. Additionally, the Phantom seems like a logical villain in DD, as someone who has no sense of self and hardly any emotion, in a game with a fairly heavy emphasis on psychology. Besides, the Phantom is a rather smart villain, impersonating a detective in order to eliminate any potential evidence of their identity. However, you manage to learn that the Phantom is doing this out of fear, and the Phantom cannot overcome these fears due to a lack of trust in others, though for a spy, a lack of trust is only natural, as is a fear of their identity being revealed.
    4. Cases Themselves: The cases themselves are not the greatest for most fans. One fan even said that 5-DLC is more loved than 5-5. From tier lists I have seen, however, most put 5-5 above 5-DLC. Regardless, 5-1 and 5-2 are considered bad, and I agree with those rankings. 5-3 through 5-5 are generally liked, as is 5-DLC (which, originally, was going to be 5-3). Many fans call 5-5 the best, and I agree, with many placing it next to 2-4 and 3-5, with which I also agree. 5-3, 5-4, and 5-DLC are all good for me (I was never a huge fan of 5-3). However, some fans place 5-3 at the bottom of their tier lists, next to 2-1, 2-3, and 4-3, which I see is unfair. It may be due to the fact that said fans dislike or even hate Athena, though I see the case as crucial to her character development, being her first trial. As for the other three, 5-4 is good, as it sets up 5-5; 5-DLC is good, if not great; and 5-5 is one of the best, due to how emotional and impactful the case is. It also is the case that made me love Simon and respect Aura as characters.

These are my opinions, if you dislike DD, tell me why in the comments.

Will the Great Ace Attorney collection be released in North America?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 09:12 AM PST

I've heard that Capcom is planning to release DGS 1 and 2 as a collection in the first quarter of 2021, but those games haven't been officially localized in the West. Do we know if this collection is going to release outside of Japan?
